Hung Yen: Lower level hospital saves life of critical patient due to traffic accident

The surgical team at Kien Xuong General Hospital ( Hung Yen province) performed a 3-hour surgery to save the life of a traffic accident patient.

On the evening of August 19, the patient, Ms. VTH (57 years old), from Binh Thanh commune (Hung Yen), was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of severe pain in the chest and abdomen, rapidly dropping blood pressure, and imminent risk of death. Ultrasound results showed a ruptured spleen, blood in the abdomen, along with multiple fractures of the left ribs and left clavicle.

Recognizing this as a case of “racing against death”, under the direct direction of specialist 2 Vu Xuan Thuy, the surgical team urgently opened the abdomen, removed the entire spleen, and stopped the bleeding urgently.

During the 3-hour surgery (from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.), doctors removed 3,500 ml of blood from the abdomen and transfused nearly 2,000 ml of red blood cells and 1,500 ml of plasma to sustain life.

The surgery was successful not only thanks to precise surgical techniques, but also due to the smooth and urgent coordination of the medical team. Currently, the patient is out of danger and is being cared for at the General Surgery Department.

In recent years, Kien Xuong General Hospital has affirmed its professional reputation in medical examination and treatment at the facility. In April 2024, the unit was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for the successful overnight colon resection surgery team that saved the lives of two seriously ill patients.
