According to the plan, from August 17 to August 20, the Ministry of Education and Training will officially implement the national virtual filtering process for university admission with 6 consecutive virtual filtering rounds.

This is an important process to determine that each candidate is only admitted to one wish among the registered wishes, according to the principle of considering from wish 1 to the last wish.

The system will stop at whichever candidate is admitted and remove the candidate from the virtual filtering list in the next times. At the same time, it helps universities determine the benchmark score, limit the situation of virtual admission to implement the enrollment plan conveniently and accurately.

In addition to the national virtual filtering system operated by the Ministry of Education and Training, there are two virtual filtering groups in the South chaired by Ho Chi Minh City National University and a virtual filtering group in the North chaired by Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

After completing 6 virtual filtering rounds, by 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, August 20, training institutions will enter the admission scores and admission results into the system, review and prepare to announce the first round of admission results according to the general schedule.

Universities can announce benchmark scores from 5:00 p.m. on August 20 to 5:00 p.m. on August 22.

Next, universities will continue to announce the first round of admission scores on August 21 and 22.

Candidates confirm online admission for the first round on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training before 5:00 p.m. on August 30.

From September 1 to December, candidates who need to apply for additional admission rounds must follow the admission information posted on the training institution's admission information page.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training, this year, the whole country has 849,544 candidates registered for admission on the system, with more than 7.6 million wishes, reaching a rate of more than 73% of the number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam. On average, each candidate registered nearly 9 wishes.

This year, many candidates have registered 100 or more wishes. In particular, up to now, it has been discovered that there are candidates who have registered up to 231 wishes for university and college admission in 2025.

Many universities have seen a sharp increase in the number of registered candidates as well as the number of applications. Some universities have seen double the number of registered candidates compared to last year, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Aviation Academy, Hanoi University, etc.

The general opinion of many universities is that the benchmark scores are harder to predict than previous years. Because there is no more early admission, this year's system will filter out the virtual in all methods, leading to the phenomenon of "virtual overlapping virtual".

Many fake rates, many subjects with difficult exams, and strong differentiation in score distribution are also among the reasons why this year's benchmark scores are difficult to predict.

Notably, candidates who just meet the standard score are still at risk of failing the university entrance exam if they do not meet the additional criteria set by the school.

The secondary criteria are applied in cases where many candidates have the same admission score at the end of the list. These are candidates who have just met the admission standard score, but if all of them are admitted, it will lead to exceeding the allowed quota.

To limit the number of successful candidates, each school will set different secondary criteria. Most universities will use the rule of prioritizing higher wishes. That is, with the same admission score, the candidate with the higher wish will be admitted first.

Some schools such as University of Technology, University of Law, University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Hanoi Open University, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, University of Transport... apply the above sub-criteria.

Another group of schools set a secondary criterion for the high school graduation math exam score. When there are many candidates with the same final score on the list, the candidate with the higher high school graduation math score will pass first.

Some schools apply secondary criteria in order of priority such as considering foreign language scores, literature/physics/computer science scores and math scores; calculating the total average score of the entire 10th, 11th and 12th grades of the subject group according to the regulations of each industry...
