After finishing 12th grade, what major should you choose? Creative paths you may not have been introduced to at school

When the career orientation system is not diverse enough, fields such as design, filmmaking, animation, etc. are still out of the "radar" of many parents and high school students today.

When 12th grade students are confused: "I don't know what major is right for me"

August – the university admission season is entering its peak. While many candidates have already decided on their wishes, many 12th graders are still wondering: “What major should I study?”. A survey by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences shows that 70% of high school students have not received adequate career orientation, most of them choose to follow the crowd or pursue “hot” majors without thoroughly understanding market demand.

Many students are struggling to determine their direction after graduating from high school.

Nguyen Minh Anh (20 years old, Bac Ninh) is an example. Once a student majoring in Mathematics, Minh Anh is passionate about photo editing and video production. “In high school , I never thought that those hobbies could become a career. It was only when I attended a talk show of Arena Multimedia that I learned that in Vietnam there was a school that provided formal training in design, filmmaking, and animation. I enrolled and received my first work project in the second semester,” Minh Anh shared.

Not only students, many parents also face a difficult problem: Should they direct their children to fields considered "stable" such as finance, law, medicine... or support their children in pursuing creative passions such as art, design, filmmaking? In fact, many students possess a talent for drawing, music appreciation, video editing... but have never been clearly oriented that this ability can develop into a stable career.

Businesses "hunt" for Multimedia Design personnel

The creative industry – from digital content, online advertising, animation, games to graphic design – is growing strongly in Vietnam, not only serving the domestic market but also exporting internationally. According to Vietnam Digital Advertising Market, the scale of digital advertising is expected to reach 2.88 billion USD by 2030, with an average growth rate of 14.4%/year.

Demand for creative industries is expected to grow every year until 2030.

However, human resources have not kept up with the industry's expansion. Statistics show that the current workforce only meets about 40% of recruitment needs in positions such as designer, filmmaker, animator, UI/UX designer, etc. Many businesses admit that they are willing to ignore degrees if candidates can demonstrate their abilities through a quality portfolio and good practical skills, and have the ability to use new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) in design, to film editing tools, 3D simulation, or developing virtual reality experiences (VR/AR).

Creative majors are not yet widely available to high school students.

Notably, Gen Z – the group that accounts for a large proportion of the future workforce – is increasingly proactive in orienting their careers early, looking for fields that both satisfy their personal passions and open up wide career opportunities and high income potential in both domestic and international markets. That is also the reason why Arena Multimedia has thousands of students enrolling every year.

Multimedia Design – how to study to get a job right after graduation?

In today’s digital age, any business – from tech startups, e-commerce, to multinational corporations – needs a team of designers, communicators, and content producers to compete and affirm their brands. Therefore, job opportunities in the creative field are not only abundant but also bring a worthy income to young people with enough passion and courage.

Arena Multimedia - a prestigious multimedia design training unit in Vietnam

It is important for high school students to choose the right learning environment. For creative industries, there are three criteria worth considering. First, an internationally-standardized training program, because this is a field that is always approaching and changing according to global trends. Second, a systematic teaching style, helping learners have a solid foundation to continue to develop in depth, while easily adapting to new technologies and trends. And finally, practicality, meaning a lot of practice, having a mentor to accompany to hone skills and confidence - indispensable luggage when entering a competitive profession.

With more than two decades in Vietnam, Arena Multimedia has become a launching pad for hundreds of thousands of young people to turn their passion for creativity into a career. International standard training programs, more than 1,000 hours of practice with the latest technologies such as GenAI, Unity, Unreal... help students build their portfolios right from the first semester. Many students have started working before graduating, even reaching out to the international market. More than just a school, Arena Multimedia has affirmed its pioneering position and is the top choice for young Vietnamese people who love creativity.
