North Gyeongsang Province leaders said that as the host city of the APEC Summit to be held in South Korea in November 2025, Gyeongju is making preparations so that the event's organizing committee can operate immediately after the official announcement.
The city will establish a task force to prepare for APEC and develop an implementation plan for each sector for immediate implementation. The top priority is housing renovation and environmental protection projects.
Gyeongju residents have also expressed their willingness to actively participate in preparations for the event, with banners commemorating the APEC Summit erected in Gyeongju and other areas of North Gyeongsang Province from June 21.
Gyeongju City has been running to host the 2025 APEC Summit since July 2021 along with Seoul, Jeju and Busan, but Busan announced its withdrawal midway.
Gyeongju, with its advantage as a UNESCO World Heritage City, is an optimal model for realizing inclusive growth and balanced development, which are the values that APEC advocates.
