Vietnam - Thailand Navy completes 51st joint patrol, maintaining security in border waters

On the morning of April 2, Ship Squadrons 263 and 261 (belonging to Squadron 515, Brigade 175, Region 5, Vietnam People's Navy) docked at the port of Region 5 (Kien Giang province), successfully concluding the 51st annual joint patrol with Ship Squadrons 421 and 561 of the Royal Thai Navy.

From March 31 to April 1, 2025, in the waters bordering Vietnam and Thailand, naval fleets of the two countries coordinated to conduct joint patrols on 6 routes with a distance of more than 430 nautical miles.

During the patrol, the two sides performed the ASEAN Hello at sea procedure; exchanged information; practiced target announcements by officers on duty; practiced hand flags, lights, and whistle signals according to the International Law on Signals; conducted search and rescue drills and implemented the Code of Conduct for Unplanned Encounters at Sea of ​​the Western Pacific Navies (CUES).

The commander of the Vietnamese Navy patrol ship squadron and officers and soldiers of Ship 263 bid farewell to the Royal Thai Navy patrol ship squadron after completing the joint patrol.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cuong, Brigade Commander of Brigade 175 - commander of the Vietnam Navy patrol boat squadron, said: The two countries' naval forces have overcome difficulties caused by weather conditions, fully implemented the contents of the Joint Patrol Regulations and established a communication channel between the Vietnam People's Navy and the Royal Thai Navy signed by the two countries' naval commanders on June 14, 1999.

With careful preparation and close coordination, the 51st joint patrol was a great success. Thereby, it contributed to maintaining security and order in the waters bordering Vietnam and Thailand, creating favorable conditions for people of the two countries to do business at sea; at the same time, continuing to promote cooperation, enhancing understanding and mutual trust between the two navies.

After completing the joint patrol, Ship 421 and the working delegation of Region 1 of the Royal Thai Navy set off to visit and exchange with Region 5 of the Vietnam People's Navy.
