2025 Southeast Asian Taekwondo Championship: Celebrating the spirit of friendship and solidarity

On the evening of August 19, the opening ceremony of the 17th Southeast Asian Youth Taekwondo Championship and Tournament and the 21st International Club Taekwondo Championship took place at Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Stadium.

The tournament is organized by the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province.

This year's tournament attracted the participation of 372 athletes, coaches and referees from countries in the region such as Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam. In particular, the host team Vietnam participated with the strongest force of 115 members. The Vietnamese Taekwondo team has long affirmed its position in regional and world tournaments. The team's recent outstanding achievement is winning 3 Gold Medals at the 2024 World Taekwondo Championship. This shows the impressive performance and competitive spirit of the Vietnamese team. A big opponent like the Philippines team also brought a strong force, ready to create dramatic competitions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ) shared that this is a particularly meaningful event as Vietnam is approaching the 33rd SEA Games. Today, everyone not only witnessed the strength and talent of the region's best athletes, but also came together to honor the values that Taekwondo brings: discipline, perseverance, respect and solidarity. These are values that go beyond sports, contributing to building better people and a more cohesive community.

Mr. Manuel Monsour Del Rosario III, President of the ASEAN Taekwondo Federation (ATF), expressed his honor to be present at the tournament taking place in the beautiful coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam. Mr. Manuel Monsour Del Rosario III said that this tournament has a special meaning, marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment and development of the Southeast Asian Taekwondo Federation. Since its establishment, the ATF has developed into a strong community, promoting the excellence of champions and honoring values such as respect, integrity and discipline.

Mr. Manuel Manuel Del Rosario III called on the athletes to compete with integrity and always strive for excellence; emphasizing that in addition to the glory of winning medals, athletes need to remember that the spirit of friendship and solidarity are the values that truly define Taekwondo.

The opening ceremony was followed by a top-notch Taekwondo performance by the Vietnam Taekwondo team, creating an explosive and inspiring atmosphere. The event opened a week of exciting competition, promising many surprises and drama.
