The price of commercial chicken is increasing, reaching 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg. This is the motivation for chicken farmers in Ha Tinh to restore their flocks to serve the approaching Tet market.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Cuong's family (Kim Son village, Luu Vinh Son commune, Thach Ha) has just sold a batch of 500 chickens for 100,000 VND/kg, about 30,000 VND/kg higher than 3 months ago. With this price, Mr. Cuong's family has made a high profit so they continue to raise more than 1,000 chickens to serve the Tet market.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Cuong said: “Commercial chicken prices fell sharply at the beginning of the year, so we were not interested in restocking. Since August, prices have started to increase and are currently at their highest level this year. It is forecasted that during Tet, the demand for broiler chickens will increase, so we are restocking and raising a new batch of more than 1,000 chickens.”

In Luu Vinh Son commune (Thach Ha), many households are currently raising new chickens to "welcome" the Tet market. Up to now, the whole commune has a total flock of about 125,000 chickens, an increase of about 20% compared to the beginning of 2023. To ensure the safety of poultry, local authorities also regularly promote propaganda on the loudspeaker system, instructing people to pay attention to disease prevention and control.

Not only Luu Vinh Son commune, currently, chicken farms and households in Ha Tinh are actively restocking as chicken prices tend to increase. According to Ms. Tran Thi Quy - owner of a 7,000 chicken farm in Bac Hoa village, Yen Hoa commune (Cam Xuyen), at the beginning of the year, chicken prices were low, causing losses, so many people left their barns empty. Since August, chicken prices have gradually increased and are currently at 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg depending on the type, about 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg higher than in February. In particular, since October, poultry feed prices have tended to decrease, so farmers have more motivation to restock.

Ms. Tran Thi Quy shared: “At the beginning of the year, chicken prices were low, only reaching 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg, so many people stopped raising chickens. Therefore, at this time, the supply is lacking, while the demand is increasing, so the price is also increasing. With the current price, chicken farmers have made high profits. Currently, my family's 6 barns are covered with chickens of all kinds, with overlapping batches so that there are always chickens to supply the market. I have also just built another barn, brooded more than 1,300 chickens, increasing the flock size to 8,000 chickens/batch".

Ha Tinh people proactively vaccinate poultry.

At present, Yen Hoa commune has about 700 households raising chickens with a total herd of about 90,000 chickens, an increase of 20,000 chickens compared to the beginning of the year; of which, about 130 households raise 500 chickens or more. More than 2 months until Tet, so farmers in Yen Hoa commune are actively re-herding, caring for and fattening their livestock; implementing disease prevention measures so that livestock and poultry can develop well, in time to catch up with the Tet food market.

According to statistics from the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh, up to now, the whole province has a total poultry herd of more than 10 million, reaching 100.5% compared to the total herd in 2022 (in 2022, the total poultry herd in the province reached more than 9.9 million). According to the plan, in 2023, Ha Tinh is expected to reach 26,500 tons of poultry meat for sale. However, up to now, the output of poultry meat for sale is only estimated at 25,703 tons. Therefore, the functional sector is stepping up propaganda work so that people can proactively grasp the market and implement herd restoration.

People in Cam Xuyen district increase the herd to "buy" the Tet market.

Mr. Phan Quy Duong - Head of Livestock Management Department (Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh) advised: "The livestock situation in the last months of the year is starting to become more active, it is predicted that the price of poultry will remain stable and tend to increase during Tet.

However, this is also the time of cold and rainy weather, wet barns and susceptible to diseases. Therefore, farmers need to proactively prevent diseases in poultry flocks such as: H5N1, septicemia... In addition, people should choose breeds with clear origins; take advantage of locally available food sources instead of relying entirely on industrial feed to increase efficiency, contributing to higher profits.
