Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of April 15, 2025 |
Experts say that domestic pepper prices are on the path to strong recovery after a period of stagnation due to the impact of the US imposing high reciprocal taxes on Vietnamese goods, including pepper.
However, after the announcement of a 90-day suspension of this tax rate, purchasing activities from international importers immediately became active again.
The move to postpone the tax not only helps relieve the waiting mentality in the market but also encourages import businesses to boost transactions to avoid cost risks after the extension period expires.

Pepper traders say that previously, pepper exported to the US was almost tax-free. However, many shipments on their way to the US will now face a new 10% tax, even though contracts were signed before the tax announcement. This means that import partners may renegotiate prices when the goods arrive at the port.
Immediately after the tax information was announced, importers increased purchases due to concerns that the tax rate after the 90-day delay could be even higher.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnam currently maintains its position as the world's leading pepper exporter. In 2024 alone, the total global pepper export volume reached 451,265 tons, of which Vietnam contributed 250,600 tons - accounting for more than half of the global output. In addition to relying on domestic raw materials, Vietnam also proactively imports pepper from many other countries for processing and re-export.
