Sayangva is one of the unique traditional festivals of the Cho Ro ethnic group - living mainly in the Southeast provinces such as Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Also known as "Worshiping the Rice God" or "Celebrating the New Rice", this is considered a unique cultural feature, preserved by the people to this day.
According to village elder Dieu Nhut (a prestigious representative of the Cho Ro ethnic minority village), every year on the occasion of the third lunar month, the Cho Ro people gather and organize a festival to express their gratitude to their ancestors and gods and pray for a new year of favorable weather and bountiful crops.
Sayangva is an occasion for people to meet and strengthen solidarity.

What is at Sayangva festival?
At this time, villagers will rest and gather to celebrate the Sayangva festival, which means eating new rice. This is the time to mark the end of the agricultural production cycle of the year, and at the same time the beginning of the new crop. If in the past only the Cho Ro people participated, now the festival attracts many local people, creating a beautiful feature in the community culture.
During the festival, the village elders and the people prepare offerings such as pigs, chickens, rice wine, bamboo rice, fruits, etc. to offer to the gods and ancestors to show their respect. Afterwards, everyone participates in folk games such as tug of war, rice pounding competition, singing and dancing, etc. This is an opportunity for people to immerse themselves in the joyful atmosphere, demonstrating the solidarity and closeness of the Cho Ro people.
