(Dan Tri) - On the morning of August 6 in Hanoi, General and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang chaired the official welcoming ceremony and held talks with Japanese Minister of Defense Kihara Minoru.
Implementing the 2024 Defense Foreign Affairs Program, from August 5-6, Japanese Defense Minister Kihara Minoru paid an official visit to Vietnam and participated in a number of activities in Hanoi. At the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (Hanoi Capital), General and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang was present early to welcome and present flowers to welcome Japanese Minister of Defense Kihara Minoru to Vietnam. Defense Ministers of the two countries attended the flag-raising ceremony of Japan and Vietnam.
Minister Phan Van Giang invited Minister Kihara Minoru to review the honor guard of the Vietnam People's Army. The Vietnam People's Army Honor Guard paraded across the stage to welcome Minister Kihara Minoru.
The two Defense Ministers introduced members of the two countries' military delegations attending the welcoming ceremony and the talks immediately afterwards. The two Ministers and their delegation took a photo before entering the talks. At the meeting, Minister Phan Van Giang emphasized that the visit to Vietnam by the Japanese Minister of Defense deepened the good relationship between the two countries, the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World" established in 2023, including cooperation between the two countries' Defense Ministries.
At the talks, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation of mutual concern. Regarding maritime issues, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam persistently pursues the policy of resolving all disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law and regional commitments, especially the 1982 UNCLOS, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and promotes negotiations on a substantive and effective Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).
