In episode 128 of the program Vietnamese Family Home, MC Dai Nghia, King Tuan Ngoc and Runner-up Quynh Anh were moved when witnessing the situation of orphaned children.
Appearing in episode 128 of the program Vietnamese Family Home , MC Dai Nghia, along with King Tuan Ngoc and Runner-up Quynh Anh, were moved to tears when witnessing the losses and disadvantages of children in especially difficult circumstances. Among them, two stories of Mach Thi An Dieu (2014) and Ha Minh Den (2013), both from Binh Thuan, brought tears to the eyes of many viewers.
Mach Thi An Dieu's family of 6 members, although not well-off in terms of material things, is always filled with laughter. However, a sudden incident occurred when An Dieu's father got meningitis and passed away 3 years ago. An Dieu's mother, Nguyen Thi Tinh (born 1982), had to struggle to earn money to raise 4 young children.
Ms. Tinh works as a housekeeper. On days when no one calls her for a housekeeper, she rides her bike around the commune, doing whatever people hire her to do, just hoping to give her children a full meal. Her income is unstable, some days she works 8-10 hours and only earns 70,000 VND for her wages. For many days without work, the mother and her five children have to eat white rice and boiled vegetables with soy sauce to get through the day. On days when she works as a housekeeper, the homeowner gives her leftovers to take home, but she leaves them all for her children, lying that she has already eaten.
Previously, Ms. Tinh borrowed 50 million VND to treat her husband and take care of his funeral when he passed away. Over the years, she has tried to work and pay it back gradually, and now still owes 30 million VND. An Dieu is a student at Phan Ri Cua 4 Primary School, Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan Province. Every time she mentions her father, she gets emotional. "I have never seen my father in my dreams. I really want to see him once in my dreams. I miss him so much," An Dieu said in tears.
Below An Dieu are twins Mach Gia Lac and Mach Gia Han, born in 2018, currently in first grade. Unlike other children who get new clothes at the beginning of the school year, they can only wear other people's old clothes, and their uniforms are also donated by the school and benefactors.
An Dieu's older brother is Mach Thanh Bao (2009). Bao has a cleft lip, congenital heart disease, weak lungs, and now has sinusitis, so his health is not good. His family has taken Bao to Ho Chi Minh City many times for medical examination but they cannot afford to cure him completely, he has to take medicine every day. Since his father passed away, Bao had to quit school because his mother could not take care of him anymore. He helps his mother with housework and takes care of his younger siblings. Looking at the poor house with children taking care of each other because their father passed away and their mother is busy making a living makes anyone who witnesses it feel sorry.
Despite her own disabilities, Thanh Bao is always optimistic in life. She said: “I am not sad or self-conscious about my appearance. I think if I am sad, it won’t help anything. I have to be happy and positive to bring a smile to my mother. I also apply for jobs, sometimes people ask me to do things and then they pay me. I want to earn more to send my siblings to school .” Although only 16 years old, Bao is very understanding. She said she always tries not to be self-conscious so as not to affect her mother’s feelings.
Runner-up Quynh Anh was impressed when she saw Thanh Bao was very mature, at 16 years old he already looked like a big brother, a pillar of the family. He was so understanding that it made others feel heartbroken. "You may be self-conscious about your appearance, but you have to be confident in your inner beauty. That confidence is something I see very few people have ," the runner-up tearfully said to Thanh Bao.
MC Dai Nghia choked up, wondering why there were such dire circumstances. “What surprised me the most was Bao’s understanding. The eldest brother, only 16 years old, accepted to give up his dream to drop out of school to take care of his younger siblings, so that they could continue to go to school. However, he was never pessimistic, but understood that his family was in difficulty, so he accepted to drop out of school. Especially at the age of 16, the age when children are very sensitive about their appearance and differences, but Bao was not self-conscious about his different appearance. On the contrary, he remained optimistic because he did not want his mother to suffer more because of him. Bao’s mature thinking made me extremely touched ,” Dai Nghia shared.
King Tuan Ngoc also felt sorry for Ms. Tinh's situation when she had to take care of everything to raise her children alone. The image that touched him the most was the four children who lost their father and had to understand things early, taking care of each other so that their mother could go to work with peace of mind.
Another family in the program with equally difficult circumstances is Ha Minh Den (2013). He is a K'Ho ethnic, currently a student at La Da Secondary School, Ham Thuan Bac District, Binh Thuan Province.
In June 2024, Den's mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer but had no money for treatment, so she passed away in early 2025. Since then, Den's father has been living a very difficult life as a single father raising 4 children.
Den’s older sister, Ha Thi Xuan Muoi (2009), dropped out of school when her mother was seriously ill to stay home and help her father take care of her and her younger siblings – one in 5th grade and one in 2nd grade. The family has a plot of land with a dozen acacia trees, but they will have to wait another 7 years before they can start harvesting. Every day, Den and her sisters help their father herd cows. Some days, they even herd cows for neighbors to earn extra money.
Previously, Minh Den’s parents worked for hire, although the work was not stable, they shared the hardships together. But since his wife passed away, Ha Minh Dao (1986) – Minh Den’s father has had to work harder. He often goes weeding, working in coffee gardens,… with an average income of about 200,000 VND to 300,000 VND/day when he has work.
The five of them lived in an old house that was leaking in many places and had no toilet, so they had to ask their neighbors for help. On days when it rained heavily, water flooded the house, and strong winds made the house shake, scaring the siblings. There were days when the family ran out of money and their father went to work, so the siblings had to go to the neighbors to eat.
Em Den has a shirt that her mother bought for her, but she doesn't dare wear it because she's afraid it'll get old. Every time she misses her mother, she takes it out and hugs it to sleep. She said that hugging the shirt makes her feel like her mother is next to her, which makes everyone feel sorry for her. "My family is poor, but I don't ask for anything. The clothes I wear and the shoes I wear are all given to me by others. Even though they look old, as long as they fit, that's enough," said Em Den.
Following Ha Minh Den's situation, Miss Quynh Anh admired how talented the children were, wondering how they could think of so many things. Like the first family, the Den sisters also taught and took care of each other so that their father could work with peace of mind, which made Quynh Anh very emotional. Miss also hugged her youngest sister Xuan Man to comfort her when she saw her crying because she missed her mother.
MC Dai Nghia choked up as he shared: “I don’t know how many times I’ve witnessed the stories in Vietnamese Family Home, I feel like I’m watching a movie. The situations that seem to be inserted into the movie to create drama are all real life stories here. The stories are shared by the children in the most honest way. Like Den, a new shirt given by her mother is normal for many children, but Den is very aware of her family’s circumstances, she knows her family is poor so she doesn’t dare to wear it because she’s afraid the shirt will get old or damaged. Then the shirt becomes a keepsake that every time she misses her mother, she takes it out and hugs it to her chest . ”
