National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visits the family and pays tribute to the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho

This morning, April 30, in Ho Chi Minh City, right after attending the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited his family, burned incense, and paid tribute to the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho. Accompanying him was Party Central Committee member, Secretary General of the National Assembly, and Head of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Tung.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Secretary General of the National Assembly, and Head of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Tung respectfully offered incense in memory of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho's great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the country, and the National Assembly.

In a friendly conversation with Mr. Nguyen Huu Chau, the eldest son of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man reviewed important milestones in the life and career of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho.

The late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho was born on July 10, 1910 in Long Phu village, Trung Quan district, Cho Lon province (now Ben Luc town, Ben Luc district, Long An province).

From a famous intellectual and lawyer, he joined the patriotic movement against French colonialism. Imprisoned for many years for revolutionary activities, he still maintained his fighting spirit.

Since 1962, when he became Chairman of the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, the late President Nguyen Huu Tho played an important role in the resistance war against the US. He was a typical intellectual figure representing the great national unity bloc among the people of the South.

At the First Session of the 7th National Assembly, he was elected by the National Assembly as Chairman of the National Assembly and Vice Chairman of the State Council. Performing the functions of the National Assembly, he focused on discussing and deciding on major, important issues in the fields of economy, society, the implementation of the Constitution and laws, most importantly the State plan, the State budget and issues of national security and people's livelihood... He encouraged the delegates to promote their sense of responsibility to the people, pay attention to promoting the right to question and contribute constructive opinions to the direction, administration and law implementation of the Council of Ministers.

For his outstanding contributions, the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho was posthumously awarded the Gold Star Order, the highest honor of the Vietnamese State. He is remembered as a typical patriotic intellectual, exemplary political activist, and a link between the great national unity bloc.

Sending best wishes to the family of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho, the National Assembly Chairman also emphasized that at the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification that took place this morning, General Secretary To Lam gave an important speech, affirming that the victory on April 30, 1975 was the most brilliant milestone in the history of building and defending the country, marking the glorious end of the 30-year steadfast fight for independence, freedom and national reunification.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a friendly chat with Mr. Nguyen Huu Chau, the eldest son of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho.

The solemn celebration is also an opportunity for the Party, National Assembly, Government, Fatherland Front and our people to pay tribute to the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, previous revolutionary leaders, heroic martyrs, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, generations of cadres, generals, officers, soldiers, militia, guerrillas, youth volunteers, frontline workers, and families with revolutionary contributions to the cause of completely liberating the South and reunifying the country.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man hopes that the family of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho will continue to promote the revolutionary tradition, educate their children and grandchildren, and make many contributions to the cause of building and developing Ho Chi Minh City; actively participate in giving opinions to the activities of the National Assembly, contributing to the development of the country.

On behalf of the family of the late National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Huu Tho, Mr. Nguyen Huu Chau respectfully thanked the leaders of the Party, State and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for their attention; shared the joy and pride on the day the whole country celebrated the important historical milestone of national reunification; expressed confidence in the new era of prosperous development of the whole nation.
