In the early 20th century, the Vietnamese people were immersed in a long night of slavery. Patriotic movements flared up one after another and then failed, due to the lack of a correct direction and centralized leadership. In response to the demands of history, Nguyen Ai Quoc left to find a way to save the country. With his intelligence and passionate patriotism, he found in Marxism-Leninism the path to complete national liberation: national independence associated with socialism. This was a great turning point, bringing the Vietnamese patriotic movement out of a deadlock, linking national aspirations with the world revolutionary movement.

The event of Nguyen Ai Quoc participating in founding the Communist Party of Vietnam (1930) affirmed his stature as an outstanding revolutionary. He himself laid the foundation for the path of combining national strength and the strength of the times, thereby paving the way for the victory of the August Revolution.

One of the factors that determined the success of the August Revolution was the correct strategic line. Ho Chi Minh always adhered to the principle: "the task of national liberation and gaining independence for the country is the first task of our Party" . He persistently followed the policy of "relying mainly on one's own strength", while at the same time knowing how to take advantage of international opportunities, turning the world war situation into a favorable one for the Vietnamese revolution.

The person who prepared for the General Uprising and seized the historical opportunity

The victory of the August Revolution was not a random outbreak, but the result of a long and elaborate preparation process directed by Ho Chi Minh. He focused on building all three forces: political, armed and base.

Regarding political forces, Ho Chi Minh paid special attention to enlightening, gathering and organizing the masses. He affirmed: "Revolution is the cause of the masses", thereby building a broad Viet Minh Front, gathering all classes of people under the banner of national independence.

Regarding the armed forces, he directed the establishment of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army and the National Salvation Army, laying the foundation for the Vietnam People's Army. The armed forces were small but well-trained, fought, propagandized, and built a mass base, becoming the core for the people's uprising.

Regarding the revolutionary base, Ho Chi Minh chose Cao Bang - Bac Son - Vo Nhai as the place to stand, from there expanding to Viet Bac, creating the "windy capital", a solid base to direct the whole country. From that careful preparation, when the opportunity came, the entire people rose up like a dam bursting, seizing power throughout the country within just half a month.

Ho Chi Minh's genius role was most clearly demonstrated in his decision to seize the opportunity after the Japanese fascists surrendered to the Allies (August 1945). He considered this a "once in a thousand years" opportunity for the nation to rise up and seize power before the Allies entered Indochina.

On August 13, 1945, under his direction, the National Uprising Committee issued Military Order No. 1, launching the General Uprising. Within just 15 days, the government was in the hands of the people across the country. On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

His leadership was demonstrated in being both resolute and clever, knowing when to “make more friends and fewer enemies”, knowing how to combine political and armed struggle, and mass uprising with the actions of armed groups. Without that sensitivity, decisiveness and courage, the golden opportunity could have passed, and the revolution could have suffered many sacrifices and losses.

The decisive role of Ho Chi Minh and its contemporary value

The victory of the August Revolution demonstrated Ho Chi Minh's leadership genius. He was the embodiment of the will for independence and freedom, the crystallization of the nation's wisdom and the quintessence of humanity. Not only did he lead the people to seize power, he also promptly built a legal and political foundation for the newly born State, ensuring the solid existence of the revolutionary government.

Modern world history shows that not many colonial nations could gain independence at that time. However, under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam made a miracle, becoming a banner to cheer for the national liberation movement around the world.

Ho Chi Minh's role in the August Revolution is not only recorded in history but also has profound contemporary value. The greatest lesson is to have the right direction, linking national goals with people's interests, taking the strength of great national unity as the foundation, and at the same time knowing how to take advantage of international opportunities.

Our Party is steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism, promoting the strength of the entire people, seizing opportunities and overcoming challenges to bring the country prosperity and happiness.

The August Revolution of 1945 was a victory of the indomitable will and aspiration for independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people, and a result of the correct leadership of the Party. In that victory, the role of Ho Chi Minh was decisive. He was the soul, the flag, the organizer and leader of the revolution.

When talking about the August Revolution, history will forever remember the great contributions of Ho Chi Minh - the genius leader, national liberation hero, and outstanding cultural celebrity. The flag of national independence and socialism that he left behind continues to light the way for the Vietnamese people to firmly step on the path of building a prosperous and happy country.
