Many new majors, new admission combinations

In order to ensure the interests of candidates studying the 2018 General Education Program, Phenikaa University has added admission combinations with subjects of informatics or economic and legal education, such as: K01 (math, English, informatics) or D84 (math, English, economic and legal education).

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education also added a new subject, industrial technology, to the admission combination of the following majors: Environmental engineering technology, food technology, chemical engineering technology, communication technology...

Dr. Ha Thuc Vien, Vice Rector of Vietnam-Germany University, said that the school has opened two new majors: mechatronics engineering and economics. The current trend is to convert special equipment such as automobile systems from using gasoline to electric or hydrogen fuel. Therefore, this will be one of the majors that supports the training of new generation engineers, meeting the requirements of the country's development conditions as well as global trends. Economics is a basic science in the field of economics and management, which will train economic experts in the future.

The University of Mining and Geology enrolls 58 training majors, including 6 new majors. These are: English language, Chinese language, materials engineering, space engineering, urban and construction management and mineral resources management. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Ha, Head of the Department of Public Relations and Enterprises of the University of Mining and Geology, the opening of new majors of the university is based on a survey of stakeholders, especially the need for job positions in practice, meeting the socio-economic development.

In 2025, the University of Electricity will open 13 new training majors. Among them, there are many majors that are of interest to society and learners. The demand for the labor market is forecast to increase in the near future for majors such as semiconductor and microchip technology, robotics engineering, nuclear engineering technology, thermal engineering, etc.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Van Chau, Principal of the University of Electricity: In previous years, the school focused on enrolling students for 19 undergraduate training majors, of which more than 2/3 were training programs in the fields of technology and engineering. From 2025, the number of training majors of the school will increase to 32, including many new majors that meet the development requirements of the country in the new era such as: Data science, artificial intelligence, robotics, computer engineering, semiconductor materials and microchips, automotive technology... In particular, from 2025, the school will reopen the nuclear engineering training major and organize enrollment.

Understand yourself, understand your chosen career

According to MSc. Nguyen Hoang Quan, Director of Admissions, Van Hien University: Before choosing a career, students need to understand themselves, know what they want, and understand that career. With tourism, it is not necessarily about satisfying passion but understanding the advantages and disadvantages of that career, the requirements of that career. Choosing tourism must be determined as choosing a career, not traveling.

MSc. Nguyen Hoang Quan also shared that: Candidates need to find out which direction the economy is developing in to have a reference. Multidisciplinary training schools will have many career options for candidates. The important thing is that candidates must determine which career is suitable for their abilities and interests.

MSc. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Head of Communications Department, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, shared that students choosing the health sector need to pay special attention to their scores during high school. The health sector is managed by two ministries, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health, so there will be many strict requirements on academic performance. At Nguyen Tat Thanh University, students choosing to study medicine and pharmacy must have good academic performance or higher, with an average high school score of 8.0; the remaining majors require average academic performance or higher, with an average high school score of 6.5. Particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, after graduation, students can do many jobs such as selling drugs, researching drugs, pharmacy, etc.

Consulting on career choices for candidates, MSc. Hoang Thuy Nga, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training said: To increase the chance of being admitted to university, candidates need to pay attention to choosing the right major, then set their wishes from high to low. In particular, they should not choose to study majors that they do not like. Some key majors are being invested in by the state, encouraging students to study such as semiconductor industry, pedagogy, etc. In fact, "hot" majors are not easy to find a job, whether or not they can find a job depends on their own abilities. That is the long-term, sustainable direction.
