Residents in apartment buildings below the Shuikousi overpass in Guiyang, China, could hear cars passing overhead when the expressway was built over the bridge.
In the nearest apartments, the bridge is just a few meters from the living room of the houses. The overpass was completed in May 1997 and about 10 residential buildings were built below it two years later, in affordable housing and resettlement projects.

With a length of 300m, this is the main and central route leading to Longdongbao airport.
A Lao Yang resident said he has lived here since 1999 and is used to the vibrations of traffic. He did not even feel an earthquake in 2008.
In September 2009, the Guiyang City Expressway was opened to traffic. Regulations were put in place that trucks were not allowed to cross the bridge and light trucks were not allowed to cross the bridge at night.
But residents say another problem is road dust.
Guiyang City is located in southwestern China, has a population of 4 million and is located at the intersection of four major sections of the national highway network.
