The sky of Ho Chi Minh City was bright yesterday when the formation of Su-30MK2 aircraft of the Air Defense - Air Force appeared at the solemn moment of the celebration.
Colonel Nguyen The Dung led the Su-30MK2 formation with many other experienced pilots to perform a formation flight over the stage on Le Duan Street.
Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Colonel Dung said: "Being chosen as the lead pilot in the Su-30MK2 formation during the 50th anniversary of national reunification is an incomparable honor. It is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life."

To have a perfect performance, the pilots have been practicing continuously for many months at Bien Hoa airport (Dong Nai) and surrounding areas. The flight formation is arranged scientifically, with close distances.
“Just one small mistake can affect the whole formation. It is not only about technique but also about the smooth coordination and bravery of each pilot,” he said.
According to Colonel Dung, this is not only a symbol of power but also demonstrates a high level of vigilance, always ready to fight, and firmly protect the Fatherland's sky.

Not stopping at the formation flight, the Su-30MK2 fighter jets also dropped heat traps, creating a strong visual effect, contributing to the special highlight of the air force performance in the April 30th celebration.

“The formation consisted of three planes performing a difficult heat trap, such as a 90-degree vertical turn, then a reverse turn. My plane alone dropped 96 chaff shells, the other two planes each dropped 48. Another plane performed a solo maneuver,” he shared.
A total of nearly 300 noise bombs were activated, creating a brilliant "fireworks" display in the sky of Ho Chi Minh City, making millions of people watching below the stage emotional and proud.
People present in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City were overwhelmed by the rare moment, when the roaring engine sound of the Su-30MK2 combined with the lighting effect from the heat trap, like a beautiful, vivid movie.
In addition to acrobatic maneuvers, the Su-30MK2 squadron also performed arrow formations, ladder formations, cloud drilling and many other difficult techniques to demonstrate the mastery of the sky and modern combat capabilities of the Vietnam People's Air Force.
