Historical turning point and faith in the future

The successful August Revolution in 1945 was one of the most brilliant milestones in the history of the Vietnamese nation, opening an era of independence and freedom for the country.

Over 80 years of construction and development, under the light of the great revolution led by the Party, our nation has achieved great achievements in all fields. Leaders, experts, scientists , and veterans have had profound assessments of the historical significance and contemporary value of this event.

Continue to maintain and promote the achievements of the August Revolution

80 years since the autumn of the August Revolution in 1945, every time I hear the echoes of the “Marching Song” or see the red flag with a yellow star fluttering in Ba Dinh Square, my heart still flutters as it did then. That revolution gave our people the right to control their destiny, bringing the country into an era of independence and freedom. As a soldier who went through the years of fighting to protect the Fatherland, I deeply understand that, to have today, countless comrades and compatriots have fallen, many generations have devoted their youth to the Fatherland.

After leaving the army and returning to civilian life, I joined the Veterans Association. I always remind myself and the veteran members to maintain the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers - loyal, exemplary, and devoted to the people. No longer holding guns, I and the veterans continue to contribute by doing practical work, participating in giving opinions on Party building and protecting the government and regime, inspiring the younger generation to continue the tradition of their ancestors in building and protecting the Fatherland.

Hanoi - the beloved capital today is striving to integrate, but also facing many challenges. I believe that the achievements of the August Revolution will be promoted by the Party Committee, the government and the people of the city to build our thousand-year-old capital to develop more and more. As for me, with my small strength, I will join the 280,000 veterans of the capital to continue to maintain and promote those achievements, worthy of the advice of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: "The veterans of the capital are always Uncle Ho's soldiers and forever Uncle Ho's soldiers; a trusted political and social organization of the Party Committee, the government and the people of the capital".

Lieutenant Colonel, PhD Tran Huu Huy, Vietnam Institute of Defense History and Strategy (Ministry of National Defense):

The historical value of the August Revolution lives forever.

80 years have passed, but the great achievements of the August Revolution are still like a bright flame that continues to guide the Vietnamese people along the historical process. That revolution not only regained independence for the nation but also gave every Vietnamese the right to live, to dream and to contribute. It is a priceless gift that the previous generation left behind, a reminder of the responsibility to preserve the country for future generations.

As an officer of the Vietnam People's Army, and at the same time a person whose duty is to research revolutionary history, understanding the sacrifices and losses through the stages of struggle, I always clearly feel my luck, honor and responsibility. Every day, touching the golden pages of history, listening to stories from witnesses, I feel like I am living in the moment when the whole nation rose up, feeling the strength of solidarity and the iron will of the Vietnamese people with the determination to "turn the hinge" of history together. Every number, every event is like a message: Let's keep moving forward, don't let that great belief and achievement fade away!

My job is not only to record or analyze, but also to contribute to keeping those historical values alive, passing them on to my comrades and to future generations. In today's context, the research task requires us to be alert to all changes, clear-headed in forecasting, and steadfast in our ideals and goals of protecting the Fatherland. I believe that, with knowledge, pride and responsibility, each soldier of Uncle Ho's Army and the Vietnam People's Army will, together with the entire Party and people, continue to write the heroic epic that began in the fall of 1945.

Great turning point of the nation, pride of the heroic capital

Exactly 80 years ago, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and leader Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people rose up to achieve the great victory of the August Revolution, smashing the colonial and feudal domination, and taking power into the hands of the people. On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - opening a new era: the era of independence and freedom. As a son of Hanoi, who fought directly on the battlefield in the South, I am proud that the beloved Capital was the origin and played a central role in the August General Uprising in 1945.

Looking back over the past 80 years, Hanoi has continuously grown strongly, achieved many great achievements in socio-economic development, maintained political stability, and improved people's lives. Now, the capital is facing a great opportunity to break through, develop rapidly and sustainably. I believe that, with its thousand-year-old cultural tradition, with its steadfastness and innovative spirit, Hanoi will continue to be a pioneer, worthy of being the national political and administrative center, contributing to building a prosperous and powerful Vietnam in the new era.

Promoting the strength of national culture

Vietnam has a long history with a rich, diverse culture and boundless strength. Over the past 80 years since the successful August Revolution, our nation has made great achievements, affirming the strength of patriotism and national culture. In the context of preparing to enter the challenging resistance war against France, in 1946, President Ho Chi Minh organized the first National Cultural Conference (November 24, 1946). The conference promoted patriotism, mobilized the highest strength of national solidarity, and was considered the Dien Hong Conference in the new era. This further affirmed the important role of culture for the country and the nation.

Culture is closely linked to people, a valuable resource not only to beautify life but also to strengthen the nation. Nowadays, we need to turn cultural values into competitive advantages, considering culture as soft power and the foundation for sustainable development, not just as relics and heritage.

Vietnam’s position in the international arena has been increasingly enhanced. Over the past ten years, Vietnam’s national brand has grown rapidly thanks to its people and culture, which are reflected in diplomacy, politics and economics. Through its behavior, the world must respect President Ho Chi Minh’s philosophy of “adapting to the unchanging and adapting to all changes”. Therefore, in the new era, culture must be promoted, exploited and become a strength for the nation’s development.

Firm belief in the younger generation to continue the tradition

Over the past 80 years since the historic autumn of 1945, our country has continuously overcome countless challenges to achieve great and comprehensive victories in all fields. From a poor, backward country devastated by war, Vietnam has now become a dynamic developing country with an increasingly high position in the international arena. Today, I am proud to see Vietnam growing strongly in many fields. People's lives have improved, the economy has grown steadily, national defense and security are solid, and the country's position in the international arena is increasingly affirmed.

I always believe and have high expectations for today's young generation - those who are carrying within them youthful energy, intelligence and great ambitions. You should cherish the values that your ancestors sacrificed their blood and bones to achieve, always remember history, preserve the national cultural identity, live with ideals, be responsible to the community and constantly learn and create to make our country increasingly developed, rich and civilized. We - the predecessors can rest assured when seeing the next generation continuing the revolutionary tradition, fueling the spirit of patriotism and steadfastly following the path that the Party, Uncle Ho and many generations have chosen and cultivated.
