Traffic projects in Ho Chi Minh City that were "frozen" for many years due to land acquisition issues have gradually been completed and put into operation, serving the maximum travel needs of the people.
Travel and transportation are more convenient
On the first day of the new year 2025, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dat, a container driver for a business in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, was very happy that transporting goods on Nguyen Van Linh Street became much more convenient when the underpass at the intersection with Nguyen Huu Tho Street opened to traffic in both directions.
The opening of the underpass at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection has helped reduce traffic pressure on the route.
"This area used to be very congested, sometimes lasting for hours. The city started building an underpass but it was slow for 2 years, making drivers suffer even more. Now that it's open to traffic, it's very convenient for cars from the West to Cat Lai," said Mr. Dat.
Mr. Lam Dai Vinh, Director of Lam Vinh Transport Company, said that traffic congestion on gateway routes such as Nguyen Van Linh caused great damage to businesses. "After the tunnel was opened, there was no more traffic congestion. Drivers can make two trips a day, helping to reduce transportation costs," said Mr. Vinh.
On the last day of 2024, Ho Chi Minh City also put into operation Phuoc Long Bridge, a section of National Highway 50 (from Trinh Quang Nghi Street to the intersection of the parallel road and National Highway 50, Binh Chanh District).
Previously, from mid-2024, Rach Dia bridge in Nha Be district was also completed, helping to improve the traffic picture in the southern part of the city.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the HCM City Traffic Project Investment Management Board (Traffic Board) said that from now until before the Lunar New Year, about 10 projects will continue to be completed, such as: Tan Quy - Tan Quy Bridge, Ba Hom, a branch of Tang Long Bridge, Duong Quang Ham Street (Go Vap), Hoang Hoa Tham, Trong Quoc - Hoang Cong Hoa Street (Tan Binh), Luong Dinh Cua Street, the section from Nguyen Hoang to Tran Nao, two branches of Ba Giat Bridge (Thu Duc), a branch of An Phu intersection, Hang Bang Canal section (District 5)...
"These projects are not too large in terms of investment capital but are very meaningful in serving people's travel and goods circulation," said Mr. Phuc.
Completed many regional linkage projects
If 2024 is the year to complete the inner-city traffic infrastructure, 2025 will be the year of inter-regional connectivity projects. The first is the Nhon Trach bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, which will be completed and put into operation on April 30.
In order to connect Nhon Trach bridge with Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway in time, the Traffic Department is urging contractors to construct package XL1, Ring Road 3 project through Thu Duc.
The 14.7km elevated section of Ring Road 3 from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway to Tan Van Interchange will be completed by the end of 2025. At that time, vehicles from Binh Duong, Thu Duc, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh... will follow Ring Road 3 to Long Thanh and Vung Tau airports conveniently.
At the launching ceremony of 365 days and nights to complete Ring Road 3 through Ho Chi Minh City on December 30, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, requested the investor and contractors to re-establish the progress to achieve the set plan. Accelerating the progress is an urgent task to connect Long Thanh airport, when this project is pushed to completion before December 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, two important intersections, An Phu and My Thuy, will be fully completed in 2025.
In the west, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway will operate a 22km section from Trung Luong expressway (section through Ben Luc) to Nguyen Huu Tho street (Nha Be). This is an important route in connecting to Hiep Phuoc port.
The National Highway 50 upgrade project is also fully exploited, conveniently connecting to Tien Giang.
Early implementation of projects according to specific policies
2025 is also the year to implement many projects according to specific policies of Resolution 98 of the National Assembly.
First, the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway will be started. Next will be projects to upgrade and expand the city's gateway highways such as Highways 1, 13, 22, the North - South axis road, and Binh Tien bridge and road.
Mr. Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, said that he had organized a conference to collect opinions from investors, adjust policies to submit to the city for promulgation, then organize a bidding to select the most suitable investor for each project.
In addition, another important project, Ring Road 4, has also been submitted to the National Assembly for approval of investment policy with many specific policies. Implementing 2 sections of Ring Road 2. Expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway; Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Traffic Department, said that with the experience in site clearance work, especially with the Ring Road 3 project, which will be applied to many upcoming projects, the site clearance progress will be better, and the project implementation time will be in accordance with the plan.
According to economic expert, Dr. Tran Du Lich, the Department of Transport needs to speed up procedures and soon implement projects according to specific policies in practice.
"The resolution was issued two years ago, the pilot period is five years, and if the first project is not started until the end of 2025, we will have lost many opportunities. I propose to come up with the fastest and most effective construction plan," said Mr. Lich.
