Mr. Duong Hiep Hung - Secretary of the Party Committee of Nhon Hai Commune (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh) said that on the night of July 8-9, about 50 sea turtles hatched and swam out to sea.
The number of baby sea turtles that hatched on the night of July 9 was about 12. This is the second batch of turtle eggs hatched in the beach area of Nhon Hai commune, Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province. These hatched turtle eggs were laid by the mother turtles on shore around the end of May, early June 2024.
Many adults, children in Nhon Hai fishing village and tourists flocked to the beach area of Nhon Hai commune to wait for the moment to directly witness the tiny baby turtles hatch and emerge from the sand to crawl out to sea.
When the first baby turtles emerged from the sand, the people cheered with excitement. Children in particular kept admiring and clapping their hands in delight at that wonderful moment.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ton Xuan Sang - Head of the Community Group for Aquatic Resources Protection in Nhon Hai Commune, Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh Province), sea turtles, a wild animal, a marine animal, usually hatch at night and will crawl to the water's edge to swim out to sea.
"After the news of the turtles hatching spread, a lot of people and tourists flocked here. Everyone stayed up all night to witness the moment the sea turtle eggs hatched. Everyone was curious, excited and then overwhelmed with emotion when they saw the cute baby sea turtles leave their eggshells, emerge from the sand and were supported by us to crawl out to sea," said Mr. Sang.
Since the appearance of sea turtles, the people of Nhon Hai commune have changed their awareness a lot and no longer litter indiscriminately into the sea.
"I believe that people will continue to raise awareness of preserving a green, clean, and beautiful environment so that turtles have a place to breed and our children and grandchildren will have more opportunities to admire these wonderful moments," Mr. Sang shared.
Watching the sea turtles being born, local people said that the turtles were so cute. They felt so lucky to witness this scene. Watching and supporting baby sea turtles to go to sea, people and tourists felt excited and happy.
According to the leader of Nhon Hai Commune People's Committee, the birth of the first baby turtles in 2024 brought joy and excitement to the fishing village people of Nhon Hai Commune.
This is the result of efforts to conserve sea turtles and wildlife by the people, the government and organizations. Currently, the community organization continues to monitor the turtles hatching, then return the baby turtles to the sea as soon as possible.
Previously, on the night of May 21, a sea turtle measuring 0.94m long, 0.86m wide, and weighing more than 90kg crawled onto the beach of Nhon Hai Commune, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province to lay eggs. After that, three other times in June, this turtle continued to come to the beach to lay eggs. Through counting, there were a total of about 400 eggs.
