On July 22, King Charles (76 years old) shared his feelings when talking to a cancer survivor during a walk in Newmarket with Queen Camilla.

According to Hello! magazine, Lee Harman, a local resident, shared: "I asked about the king's health and he said he felt much better."

Harman told King Charles about his medical journey and said the king had asked about his health.

“He asked how I was and I said, ‘I’m fine, I was cancer-free last year’,” said Harman, 54, from the nearby town of Bury St Edmunds.

The candid conversation with a cancer patient marked a rare revelation from the monarch about his own health. King Charles has maintained a busy schedule of royal duties while his treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, which is expected to be diagnosed in 2024, continues this year. But he has not been shy about sharing his personal feelings.

In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that the king had been diagnosed with cancer and began treatment. King Charles underwent surgery to treat a benign prostate tumor in January of that year, but a spokesman clarified that he did not have prostate cancer.

On the advice of his doctor, King Charles postponed public appearances for three months, but he still had to continue to deal with state affairs and paperwork.

The king returned to work at the end of April 2024 and palace sources said before Christmas last year that his cancer treatment would continue into the new year.

"King Charles' treatment is progressing positively and his condition is under control, with the treatment cycle continuing into next year," palace sources said on December 20, 2024.

On March 27, 2025, the palace announced that King Charles had been briefly hospitalized after an adverse reaction to a routine cancer treatment. The king was admitted to the London hospital (where he had prostate surgery last year) after experiencing "temporary side effects requiring short-term observation in hospital," Buckingham Palace confirmed.

At the end of May 2025, the King and Queen Camilla (78 years old) went to Canada on an official 2-day visit.

An aide shared how he manages the illness while continuing to perform royal duties: "What you learn about this disease is that you have to control it, and that's exactly what he's doing. Medicine has made incredible advances. Just follow the doctor's orders, live as normal a life as possible. That's exactly what the king is doing."

At that time, the king also shared things that "could help" in cancer treatment while talking to a young man undergoing cancer treatment.

"He asked me about my treatment, which starts in June 2025, and talked to me about food and diet. He also asked me if I had radiotherapy, which I did earlier this year," Stamford Collis, a 22-year-old student at the University of Exeter, said after meeting the King and Queen at a garden party at Buckingham Palace, The Telegraph reported. The king also said: "Sometimes it's about diet and what you eat."

Queen Camilla's son, food writer Tom Parker Bowles, said King Charles and his mother always ate "simple, healthy and seasonal food" with a cupboard full of "seasonal royal food".
