Honoring 25 outstanding young people with disabilities nationwide

The program "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" in 2025 honors 25 young people with disabilities who are full of willpower, overcoming adversity, spreading positive inspiration and affirming practical contributions to the community.

On the afternoon of August 20, in Hanoi , the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, the Vietnam Association of Youth with Disabilities and TCP Vietnam Company jointly organized the program "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" in 2025.

The program "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" was first launched in 2013, on the occasion of speaker Nick Vujicic's visit to Vietnam, with the goal of inspiring positive living for disabled youth.

To date, the program has made a strong impression with more than 275 outstanding examples of disabled youth at the central level being honored. They are brave people who overcome their disabilities, not only nurturing the will to live but also making positive contributions to the community and society.

Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Union spoke at the program.

Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, President of the Central Youth Union of Vietnam said: According to statistics, currently in Vietnam, the number of people with disabilities aged 2 and over is more than 8 million, of which more than 2 million are young people.

Over the years, the Party, the State and society have always paid attention to the work of people with disabilities, through the promulgation and implementation of many policies and guidelines to care for, ensure the rights and promote the role of people with disabilities. Thereby contributing to improving the quality of life, expanding opportunities for people with disabilities to participate equally in social activities, while building a humane, barrier-free environment, towards the goal of inclusive and sustainable development.

According to Mr. Lam, in recent times, the Vietnam Youth Union has coordinated with all levels, sectors and units to implement many meaningful programs and activities to care for and accompany young people with disabilities. “From 2014 to now, through the movement “I love my Fatherland”, the Union has designed many models and diversified forms of activities to accompany and share with young people with disabilities, such as: Medical support, health care, exchange, making friends, improving cultural and spiritual life, supporting learning, improving professional skills, supporting careers, jobs, business, marriage and family…”, said Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam.

Disabled youth share their journey of overcoming adversity.

“In particular, in 2024, with the attention of all levels and sectors, the Central Youth Union and the Central Vietnam Youth Union established the Vietnam Association of Youth with Disabilities, marking an important step forward to affirm the position and role of youth with disabilities in the Vietnamese youth community, while creating a healthy environment for them to develop their potential, make positive contributions to society, as well as promote the community's interest and support for youth with disabilities,” Secretary Nguyen Tuong Lam emphasized.

According to Mr. Lam, every young person, regardless of their starting point, has within them the desire to live a useful life and contribute. But for young people with disabilities, the journey is more difficult, requires more determination, and requires more sharing and encouragement from the community.

Today's commendation ceremony is not only a recognition, but also a strong commitment from all levels, sectors, and youth organizations: Commitment to building a friendly, inclusive, and equal environment for all youth, including youth with disabilities; commitment to empowering and creating conditions for youth with disabilities to develop comprehensively in terms of education, career, health, spiritual culture, and participation in social life; commitment to promoting a spirit of positive living, integration, and self-reliance in the community of youth with disabilities.

“We believe that each disabled youth is an indispensable part of the Vietnamese youth community. Each step forward for you is a step forward for the whole society, together towards a future where no one is left behind. Let’s shine with our resilience, optimism and constant efforts. And believe that society always needs you, always welcomes you with open arms and accompanies you,” Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam emphasized.

In 2025, after 3 months of implementation since April 24, the Organizing Committee of "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" 2025 received 52 applications from 17 units and organizations. The selection council met and selected 25 outstanding young people with disabilities to honor. The faces honored this year come from many different regions and professions, but all have the will to overcome difficulties and the desire to contribute.

Nguyen Dieu Linh – a student of Public Relations (Vietnam Youth Academy) and Do Thi Hien Giang – a student of Business Administration (Hanoi University of Commerce), both born in 2003, are the two youngest delegates. Although still in school, both have achieved many excellent academic achievements and actively participated in volunteer and community activities, affirming their spirit of responsibility and dedication.

Dinh Viet Tuong, a young man born in 2002 in Quang Tri, has a physical and mental disability but does not let it stop him. With his love for music , Tuong has become an artist and content creator loved by hundreds of thousands of young people. His narrative songs and positive videos on the TikTok platform have touched the hearts of many people, turning him into a source of inspiration spreading the will to live.

Ms. Le Thi Xuan, born in 1990 in Ninh Binh, has been disabled in her legs since childhood and has to walk with a brace. Through her tireless efforts, she became an information technology lecturer, opening free training classes for the disabled, helping them find stable jobs. Ms. Xuan is also compassionate when she adopted an abandoned newborn baby, her story of motherhood leaves many emotions and admiration.

The Organizing Committee awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, a logo and a savings book worth 10 million VND to a typical disabled person.

Pham Tuan Hung, born in 2002 in Quang Ninh, suffered a terrible accident as a child, losing both legs to a bear bite. Not giving up on fate, Hung turned to sports and achieved great success. In 2023, he won the Gold Medal at the National Para Swimming Championship and was then called up to the national team to participate in the ASEAN Para Games, bringing glory to his homeland.

These stories are vivid proof of the power of will, affirming that people with disabilities not only overcome adversity but also spread positive energy to the community and strongly inspire the young generation of Vietnam.

At the "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" 2025 Commendation Ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, a logo and a savings book worth 10 million VND presented by TCP Vietnam.
