NDO - The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center and the AI Data Center will be the platform to help NVIDIA and domestic partners promote research, development, and deployment of advanced AI technology.

On the afternoon of December 5, in Hanoi, the National Innovation Center (NIC) announced information about cooperation between Vietnam and NVIDIA Corporation to establish the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center, called VRDC, along with the AI Data Center in Vietnam.

Witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and NVIDIA Chairman Jensen Huang, the cooperation agreement was signed between Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung - representing the Vietnamese Government and Mr. Jay Puri, Executive Vice President in charge of global operations of NVIDIA.

This cooperation is the result of an Agreement signed between the Government of Vietnam and NVIDIA during the second visit to Vietnam by Mr. Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

The cooperation agreement is not only a strategic step and a new development direction for NVIDIA, but also an important milestone for Vietnam to become the leading AI research and development center in Asia, thereby creating breakthroughs for key technology industries; at the same time, opening up career opportunities for domestic talent.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that innovation is one of the areas that the Vietnamese Government pays special attention to and considers one of the key factors in the country's development strategy. Vietnam is committed to creating the most favorable environment for the world's leading technology companies, such as NVIDIA, to be able to implement research and development projects in Vietnam.

“The cooperation between the Vietnamese Government and NVIDIA is a strategic step, not only helping Vietnam improve its capacity for AI research and application, promoting the development of the high-tech industry in Vietnam, but also opening up new development opportunities for NVIDIA in the new era," said Minister Nguyen Chi Dung.

VRDC and AI Data Center will be the platform for NVIDIA and domestic partners to promote research, development and deployment of advanced AI technologies. These centers will not only play a key role in supporting AI research and application development initiatives, promoting innovation and startups, but also creating job opportunities for talented people in Vietnam.

The cooperation agreement is an important milestone for Vietnam to become a leading AI research and development center in Asia, thereby creating breakthroughs for key technology industries.

Vietnam is considered one of the countries with potential in developing and applying AI thanks to its young, dynamic, and technology-savvy human resources. The Vietnamese government has also identified AI as one of the priority areas in its national development strategy. The cooperation agreement between Vietnam and NVIDIA promises to promote the development of AI in the country and the region.

The new infrastructure provided through the VRDC and the AI Data Center will support Vietnam’s national AI strategy, laying the foundation for AI talent incubation and development using NVIDIA’s cutting-edge AI technologies. This will help the country accelerate AI research, development and application in key industries such as healthcare, education, transportation and finance.

Recently, the Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Planning and Investment to be the Head of the Working Group to cooperate with NVIDIA Corporation to support NVIDIA in shifting the production chain and developing artificial intelligence technology in Vietnam.

In October 2024, on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of its establishment, NIC and NVIDIA signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation on developing a nationwide artificial intelligence ecosystem in Vietnam, focusing on training to improve skills, support research and start-ups in the field of AI.

Vietnam is ready to embark on the journey to become a country with the capacity to research and apply AI, with high-quality, dynamic human resources and the ability to quickly absorb technology. Along with that is an increasingly favorable environment for innovation and startups, especially in emerging technology fields with active support from domestic and foreign investors.

The Vietnamese Government has been implementing policies to support technology research and development, while focusing on building digital infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for the development of AI; in which, the establishment of the National Innovation Center with many breakthrough policies is considered a bright spot of Vietnam's innovation ecosystem in recent years.

The Prime Minister also issued the Program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050" with the goal of training 50,000 engineers to serve the semiconductor industry by 2030, including at least 5,000 human resources with deep expertise in artificial intelligence.

Through this strategic cooperation, Vietnam will cooperate with NVIDIA to promote the strong development of AI technology in Vietnam according to international standards, while creating a bright future for the innovation ecosystem and high-tech industry in Southeast Asia.

"The establishment of the NVIDIA AI Research and Development Center and Viettel AI Data Center using technologies provided by NVIDIA will be an important foundation to promote research and development of advanced AI technologies in Vietnam. NVIDIA's support in the field of AI will help Vietnam not only achieve its development goals in the high-tech industry in general and the AI field in particular, but also contribute to promoting the entire Southeast Asian region to become a destination for innovation," Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized.
