In late 2020, then-US Vice President Mike Pence announced that members of the US Space Force (USSF), the sixth branch of the US military, would be called "Guards".

Business Insider today, February 4, quoted a press release from the USSF saying that after 4 years of establishment, this force sent "guards" into space for the first time.

Accordingly, two American astronauts, including Colonel Hague, and one Russian astronaut will be present in the Crew-9 mission on the Dragon spacecraft of Space X scheduled for August.

Once on the ISS, Colonel Hague will take on the role of flight engineer.

"The core objective of this mission is to conduct scientific research and collect data," said Colonel Hague.

"The ISS provides a unique platform in microgravity conditions, allowing researchers around the world to explore and discover processes that have significant impacts on the behavior of the human body and the environment around us, both on Earth and beyond," said the US colonel.

The USSF was only established four years ago, and is the youngest of the other US military branches such as the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard and National Guard.

When it was established in December 2019, the USSF became the first branch of the US military to be added in more than 70 years.
