Data center redundancy is a set of policies, tools, and processes to enable the recovery or continuation of critical infrastructure and technology systems following a natural or man-made disaster.
This system also includes knowledge about models, security, disaster recovery capabilities and ensuring continuity in information technology application and digital transformation activities of state agencies and units in Ho Chi Minh City.

The deployment of a backup data center is currently considered urgent, therefore, on June 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center coordinated with other units to organize the Workshop "Model and options for selecting a city backup data center", to listen to opinions and research, search, and propose solutions for building and operating the city's backup data center.
According to Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, in the context of strong digital transformation today, the application of information technology and digital transformation has become an important foundation for all activities of the government and business organizations.
Ho Chi Minh City, as the leading economic, cultural and educational center of the country, is no exception to this trend. The city has deployed many shared digital systems and platforms to serve the digital transformation of departments, branches, districts, and agencies and units in the area.
Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh said that although many achievements have been made, it is undeniable that there are still many great risks and challenges. Risks from natural disasters such as floods, storms, earthquakes, risk factors, human hazards such as hackers stealing data, sabotage or extortion, or infrastructure factors such as equipment damage can all cause serious damage to the city's digital infrastructure.
Incidents such as fires, power outages, software errors or increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks are direct threats that can occur at any time, affecting data security and information security of agencies, units and people.
"Researching and proposing the deployment of a city backup data center is not only a solution but also an urgent requirement," said the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center.
The backup data center will help the city ensure the continuity of information systems and shared digital platforms serving government operations and providing public services to people and businesses in the digital environment; at the same time, improve disaster recovery and protect important data of agencies, units and organizations in the city.
According to SVTech representative, backing up data or establishing a backup data center is extremely important and urgent. Especially when the biggest threat to businesses today is ransomware cyber attacks.
According to statistics from the beginning of 2023 to now, there have been 13,750 cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam, causing serious incidents and damage. In the first 3 months of 2024 alone, the number of cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam was 2,323.
"When preventing ransomware attacks is almost impossible, backup is still a good support measure for units and organizations when attacked," SVTech representative emphasized.
VNISA Southern Executive Committee member Trinh Ngoc Minh said that Ho Chi Minh City should build a backup data system that can prevent ransomware, to ensure the ability to provide public services and network security.
