Cracking down on counterfeit goods: Don't let 'toxic' information lead public opinion

Fake milk, fake medicine, fake functional foods… are the most searched keywords recently when the authorities have continuously cracked down and arrested cases of large-scale production and trade of fake goods. Taking advantage of the panic and anger of the people in front of the “matrix” of fake goods on the market, some subjects have distorted the truth, misrepresented the situation, and spread skepticism in society.

It must be affirmed that violations of the production of counterfeit and poor quality goods, especially health care products, are intolerable acts. Because the ultimate goal of these subjects is nothing other than profiting from the health and lives of their compatriots.

As soon as suspicious signs were detected, functional forces from the central to local levels quickly coordinated, verified, investigated and carried out professional measures in a synchronous and methodical manner. The case of false advertising of Kera vegetable candy products in Ho Chi Minh City and Dak Lak was just handled, and immediately after that, the largest-ever production, trading and consumption of fake milk powder in Hanoi and neighboring provinces was dismantled. Thanh Hoa police continued to dismantle a large-scale fake drug production and trading ring, operating since 2021, earning about 200 billion VND... All of this is proof of our State's uncompromising determination against crime. All individuals and organizations related to the above cases will be strictly handled according to the law, without exception.

While the entire political system is making efforts to clean up the market, crack down on counterfeit and fake goods to protect people's health, it is also the time when distorted and fabricated voices "take advantage of troubled waters to fish". Using cropped images, information that combines old and new incidents is released, such as: discovering hundreds of tons of fake milk, fake medicine... Immediately after that, there are biased and one-sided comments that: "Vietnam is a paradise for counterfeit goods", "The government covers up and ignores criminals", "The legal system is weak, unable to protect the people"...

In reality, we need to have a clear, comprehensive and accurate view of the nature of the matter. Counterfeit goods exist in every country and are considered a crime everywhere. The fact that Vietnamese authorities have discovered, destroyed and publicly announced information has confirmed that behind the guise of “patriots” are saboteurs who deliberately ignore efforts to perfect the legal framework and improve the effectiveness of state management to handle counterfeit and poor quality goods.

We do not avoid the fact that counterfeit goods and fake drugs are problems that need to be thoroughly dealt with. The discovery of hundreds of tons of fake milk and fake drugs and their handling according to the law is a warning to the whole society. From there, it raises an urgent need to strengthen supervision, raise consumer awareness, as well as people's vigilance against poor quality goods. But above all, it shows the strong determination of the Party, the State and the authorities in protecting the legitimate rights of the people.

Distorting information and distorting the truth to sow panic in public opinion is another way to harm people's health. Criticizing fake goods is necessary, but distorting is a crime. This is clearly not for the benefit of the people but only serves the purpose of sabotage against the country.
