Ho Chi Minh City operates tide-prevention sluices to help reduce flooding in District 8 and Binh Chanh

The Cau Sap canal tidal sluice project, once put into use, will prevent high tides from the Can Giuoc River from entering Ward 7, District 8 and Phong Phu Commune, Binh Chanh District.

On the morning of March 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (abbreviated as the Urban Infrastructure Board) inaugurated the embankment and tidal culvert project on Cau Sap canal in District 8.

The project has 2 packages including: construction of a 563 m long embankment, 3.5 m wide road surface and tidal sluice.

In particular, the reinforced concrete tidal sluice combined with a 15 m wide gate valve, operated by hydraulic cylinders controlled on site, combined with remote control through a monitoring and data collection system.

The total investment of the Project is nearly 237 billion VND, from the City budget.

The tide-prevention sluice gate item can be controlled remotely through the monitoring system.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, said that when completed, the project will prevent high tides from the Can Giuoc River from entering Ward 7, District 8 and Phong Phu Commune, Binh Chanh District, helping to reduce flooding for people in these two areas.

In the future, this project, combined with the tidal control sluices of the Ho Chi Minh City Tidal Flood Control Project taking into account climate change factors (phase 1), will help control high tides and reduce flooding in many districts of Ho Chi Minh City.
