Farmers are excited because shrimp has a "good harvest and good price"
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, from the beginning of 2025 to present, the province's shrimp farming area is about 4,800 hectares, reaching 78.7% of the plan, down slightly by 1.7% over the same period last year. The whole province has harvested 3,868 hectares, with an average yield of 3.8 tons/ha, total output of 14,879 tons, reaching 57.9% of the plan and increasing by 11.3% over the same period in 2024.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, a farmer in Thuan My commune, said: “Compared to before, this year's shrimp crop has better quality, less disease, so the yield is better. On average, each hectare reaches 3.5-4 tons, about 0.5 tons/ha higher than the same period last year. The current shrimp price is also stable, farmers are very excited.”
One of the biggest concerns of shrimp farmers is disease. Since the beginning of 2025, the total shrimp farming area damaged by disease is only about 1.3 hectares of 3 households, accounting for 0.03% of the farming area. These outbreaks are mainly concentrated in Thuan My commune, the main cause is white spot disease. To support farmers in a timely manner, the authorities have provided 650 kg of 90% TCCA chemicals to treat and control the disease. The rapid implementation of treatment has helped minimize damage, giving farmers peace of mind.
The provincial Department of Agriculture said it always closely monitors disease developments, strengthens water environment monitoring and guides farmers on preventive measures; recommends that farmers should release seeds of clear origin, strictly manage the pond environment and regularly check to detect pathogens early.
Shrimp consumption in the province is also quite favorable. Since the beginning of the year, the prices of whiteleg shrimp and black tiger shrimp have been stable and increased compared to the same period in 2024. Specifically, whiteleg shrimp of 90-100 pieces/kg cost from 75,000-85,000 VND/kg, an increase of 15,000 VND/kg over the same period; 60-80 pieces/kg cost from 90,000-100,000 VND/kg, an increase of 10,000 VND/kg over the same period; 30-40 pieces/kg cost from 140,000-150,000 VND/kg, an increase of 25,000 VND/kg over the same period.
For black tiger shrimp, the 50 shrimp/kg type costs from 125,000-155,000 VND/kg, an increase of 15,000 VND/kg over the same period; the 30-40 shrimp/kg type costs from 180,000-220,000 VND/kg, an increase of 20,000 VND/kg over the same period.
Mr. Le Van Ro, a shrimp farmer in Vam Co commune, shared: “Since the beginning of the year, shrimp prices have remained stable at a high level compared to last year. On average, each crop I earn a profit of about 100-120 million VND/ha after deducting expenses. Thanks to that, I have the motivation to invest in more machinery and raise new crops.”
Although the results have been quite positive, the provincial agricultural sector has identified many challenges ahead, especially climate change, potential diseases as well as increasing demands from export markets. Therefore, the orientation of shrimp farming development in the coming time must be based on sustainable factors. Specifically, the sector continues to encourage the application of biosafety farming processes, VietGAP; strengthen technical training for farmers, control the quality of seeds and input feed.
In the coming time, the agricultural sector will orient production linkages along the chain to increase product value, competitiveness and reduce risks for farmers./.
