Further promoting the friendship between the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the United States

On June 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations held a meeting to celebrate the 249th anniversary of US Independence Day (July 4, 1776 - July 4, 2025), the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - US diplomatic relations (1995-2025), demonstrating the friendship between the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the people of the United States.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Pham Thanh Kien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam - US Friendship Association said: After Vietnam gained independence, the Vietnam - US Friendship Association was established and is the first bilateral people's friendship organization of the Vietnamese State established under the Directive of President Ho Chi Minh, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity between the people of the two countries.

Mr. Pham Thanh Kien emphasized that currently, bilateral cooperation is increasingly deepening in many areas, from economics , education, defense, to innovation and sustainable development. Along with that are the continuous efforts in closing the past, returning war relics, handling bombs and mines and toxic substances left over from the war. These results come not only from the efforts of the two governments but also from the persistent companionship of people's organizations, businesses, and dedicated individuals.

On the US side, Ms. Susan Burns, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, thanked the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations for organizing this meaningful meeting. Ms. Susan Burns said that 30 years ago, the US and Vietnam established diplomatic relations, together looking towards the future and opportunities. Today, the two countries are trusted partners with friendship based on reconciliation, mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political systems of each country.

Ms. Susan Burns highly appreciated the opportunities and potential for cooperation in the field of education and training - a pillar of the people-to-people diplomatic relations between the United States and Vietnam. The US diplomatic mission in Vietnam is committed to expanding partnerships between US and Vietnamese higher education institutions so that both countries can benefit from the talents of students and lecturers.

According to Ms. Susan Burns, cultural and professional exchange programs are also pillars of the people-to-people diplomatic relationship that have been strongly implemented, providing opportunities to learn about each other's cultures, making an important contribution to the diplomatic relationship between the two countries. The cooperation and diverse initiatives implemented help the two countries of the United States and Vietnam become safer, stronger, and more prosperous.
