EDITORIAL: Artists working in the police force always receive special attention from the audience due to the nature of their work. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the People's Police Force's Traditional Day, VietNamNet has launched a series of articles about artists who have worked and are working in the police force and are familiar to audiences nationwide through plays and films... to hear them share about their work and private lives.

Truc Mai has 15 years of experience working at the CAND Drama Theater.

- It's been a long time since you've been on screen. When will the audience see Truc Mai again on screen?

This year, our artists in the police industry have many activities and big anniversary programs. Recently, I also had to miss some film projects of Hanoi Radio, including Mat Lenh Hoa Sua - a film about the theme of the people's police force. I focused completely on the 5th National Professional Stage Festival on "Image of the People's Police Soldier" - 2025 and very fortunately, I won a personal Gold Medal for my role as well as for the play Nguoi Thu Tam.

- Up to this point, do you have enough medals to be considered for the Meritorious Artist title? Are you someone who values titles?

At this point, I have enough medals and I look forward to the next review. After all the contributions, every artist wants their efforts and contributions to be recognized with titles, including me.

During this time, in addition to taking on roles about people's police officers, my CAND Drama Theater also had to participate in many commemorative activities and performances, including the CAND Drama Week. I also coordinated with other plays of the theater in addition to a busy performance schedule and political work schedule. Therefore, if I could participate in a TV series, I would only dare to accept small roles and film in Hanoi at appropriate times. Recently, I participated in the film Wind Across the Blue Sky directed by Le Do Ngoc Linh.

In the film, actress Phuong Oanh and I play the same characters and confront each other. I play the role of the head of the parents' committee whose child studies with My Anh's (Phuong Oanh) child and have conflicts and disagreements.

This is a short enough role and the filming location is entirely in Hanoi, so I can arrange my time. Furthermore, my criteria is that even though the role is short, the audience will be impressed. During a period when I am too busy, I can still participate in making films so that the audience will remember me, so I have to choose roles that leave a lasting impression. If I hate, I have to make the audience hate me completely, if I love, I have to make the audience love me completely, not vaguely or vaguely.

From now until the end of the year, my CAND Theater continues to stage 1-2 new plays and has a tight schedule, spread across provinces and cities. At the theater, I am also entrusted with many long-term main roles, so arranging time to participate in TV drama projects is a problem. I am very sorry for having to miss out on new TV roles.

- You said this year is a busy year, having to perform regularly, not to mention filming. Your husband is also a police officer, his working hours are not fixed, so how do you two arrange your time to ensure both work and take care of the family and take care of your 2 children?

This year is an extremely busy year for my husband and I because it is the year of many major activities of the Public Security Forces. However, I have always had a strong support system. That is my grandparents. I do not dare to accept films that are too long or filmed too far away.

To have a complete family, work and personal development is not only difficult for women but also for men. My two children, one is entering puberty, the other is in kindergarten, they are still too young so I always have to be very close. Therefore, to be able to take on a short role, I also need a lot of support from my family.

Truc Mai's family has both boys and girls.

- How old is your husband and how did you two meet?

My husband is 1 year older than me. We are from the same hometown and went to the same high school and fell in love when we were students. He joined the police force first. After I graduated from the University of Theatre and Cinema, many theaters invited me to join them, but he advised me to join the CAND Drama Theater for the same industry. I listened and fell in love with the police force from that day.

- How many years have you been in the industry and what is your title?

I joined the CAND Drama Theater and was on the payroll since September 2010 and currently hold the rank of Major.

- At the theater where you work, there are many actors who are familiar to television audiences. Lieutenant Colonel Ho Phong specializes in villain roles. Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Cong specializes in police roles. Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Huyen specializes in secretary roles, and Major Truc Mai wants to make her mark with villain roles, third parties?

For me, all roles are like a material of life and I want to be able to transform into all types of roles. On stage, I often take on dramatic roles with the inner and depth of characters with rich emotional lives, but on the contrary, when on television, I am assigned villain roles or roles with strong personalities.

To arrange time to complete the agency's work tasks and participate in TV drama projects is a relatively difficult task for me, but I still try to arrange my time in the most reasonable way. When participating in TV dramas, although I only accept short roles, I really want that role to leave an impression on the audience, even if the roles may make the audience dislike or be criticized, it's okay. As an actor, playing a role that the audience hates is also my success.
