Charming and elegant young woman in the paintings of artist Nguyen Thanh Hai

After more than 30 years of pursuing painting, artist Nguyen Thanh Hai has just collaborated with SANN - The House of Art to organize a grand solo painting exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding the reason for this passionate artistic "game", he said: "At first, I focused on painting still life, landscapes, and daily life of people in the Northern Delta. Then I switched to painting mostly young girls, young girls wearing ao dai, daily life scenes, and images of bamboo trees... to make the works more vivid."

According to him, "painting portraits on lacquer paintings is quite difficult. If you are drawing an artistic portrait, you just need to capture the expression and express it. But if you are drawing realistically, you need to meticulously draw every stroke to resemble the model."

Painter Nguyen Thanh Hai was born in 1968 in Bac Ninh province. He graduated from Hanoi University of Fine Arts in 1992 and has participated in many group exhibitions such as: Lotus, since 1991 (2022, Ho Chi Minh City); Where Art Meets Luxury (2015, Da Nang ); The Origin of the Beauty (2014, Korea); When Autumn Comes (2014, France); Vietnam - Symphony of Colors (2013, Belgium); Symphony of Colors (2013, France); Portraits of Vietnamese Women: Wartime - Peacetime (2012, Ho Chi Minh City); Four Seasons of Vietnam (2011, Finland); Uno Sguardo Sul Vietnam (2011, Italy); Colors Without Borders (2009, France); Four Seasons Calling (2008, Singapore)...

In this solo exhibition, artist Nguyen Thanh Hai selected works that capture the memories and soul of Vietnam and also very ordinary cultural features: Childhood memories, Family memories, Countryside memories, Festival season, Reed flower season, Lotus season...

His art space is also full of moments of family reunions and spring outings through his works: Spring Flowers, Spring Fragrance, Welcoming Old Spring, Sunshine in the Garden, Afternoon at Hoan Kiem Lake ...

Especially the unique lacquer portraits of artist Nguyen Thanh Hai, including works: Princess of the Nguyen Dynasty, Girl and Non Quai Thao, Old Girls, Old Families... The style in Nguyen Thanh Hai's paintings is that the young girls all wear graceful and charming ao dai.
