On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, at the historic Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, the flag-raising ceremony took place at exactly 6:30.

Performing the flag-raising ceremony, the parade started from behind the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. The group walked around to the front to the music of the song "Marching under the military flag" to reach the flagpole.

Many people arrived early, burning incense in the grounds of President Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum, praying for peace.

Carrying her 6-month-old baby, Ms. Lan Anh (37 years old, from Tuyen Quang) attentively took photos of the ceremonial procession coming out. This was the first time she attended the flag-raising ceremony at Ba Dinh Square.

At the beginning of the flag-raising ceremony, she stood at attention, looking up at the national flag fluttering in the wind.

"Last night, my family and I went from Tuyen Quang to Hanoi to watch the fireworks display and celebrate New Year's Eve. This morning, the whole family woke up at 4:30 to go from the hotel to Uncle Ho's mausoleum to attend the flag-raising ceremony.

This is a very special flag-raising ceremony for me and my children. Standing under the national flag, in front of Uncle Ho's mausoleum, I am very emotional. I hope everyone has a peaceful new year," Lan Anh said with a smile.

Mr. Khiem and his wife (67 years old, from Hanoi) were also present at Ba Dinh Square early. Their house is near Uncle Ho's mausoleum, so every day, Ba Dinh Square is where they wake up early to exercise. Today, they came here to offer incense to President Ho Chi Minh and attend the first flag-raising ceremony of the new year.

Mr. Khiem said that for many years he has been coming to Uncle Ho's mausoleum early and is very proud every time he hears the melody of the song Marching Under the Military Flag echoing.
