19-year-old Czech tennis player Jakub Mensik created a historic shock when he defeated his childhood idol Novak Djokovic with a score of 7-6, 7-6 in the final match of the Miami Open 2025 on the morning of March 31.

The victory helped Mensik win his first ATP title in his career, and prevented Djokovic from reaching the 100-title ATP mark, a milestone that only Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Roger Federer (103 titles) had previously achieved.

Despite being ranked only 54th in the world and playing in his second ATP final, Mensik still played with confidence. He made the most of his strongest weapon, his powerful serve, scoring 14 aces, making things difficult for Djokovic. At 37, the Serbian legend could not keep up with his opponent's youthfulness and daring style of play.

Djokovic and Mensik share their thoughts after the final

The Masters 1000 final was also the match with the biggest age gap since the tournament system was born in 1990.

"An unbelievable tournament. The first of many to come. It hurts to admit this, but he played better than me. In the decisive moments, he did very well.

"He served incredibly well. It was an incredible mental effort to stay on top in difficult moments. For a young player like him, this is a great quality, something he will use many times in the years to come. Good luck. Maybe next time you will let me win a match?" - Djokovic shared after the match.

It is worth noting that Mensik only played in the Junior Grand Slam final three years ago but showed remarkable maturity when maintaining a stable game against one of the greatest players in the history of world tennis.

With this victory, Mensik became the 9th youngest Masters 1000 champion in history, and the second youngest person to ever win the Miami Open, behind only Carlos Alcaraz.
