Ship 20 - the first warship of Naval Region 3 to cross the equator

In 2018, after being assigned to Squadron 132, receiving the trust of the Ministry of National Defense, the Navy as well as the Command of Region 3 and Brigade 172, Ship 20 was assigned many important defense foreign affairs missions. These included international activities such as welcoming, exchanging and training with the navies of France, the US, Japan, India, China and South Korea...

Among the foreign defense missions that Ship 20 has carried out, we can mention the success of the LIMA exercise in Malaysia in May 2023, the KOMODO exercise in Indonesia in June 2023; participation in the multilateral naval exercise MILAN in India, combined with a friendship visit to Malaysia and a joint exercise with the Republic of Korea Navy in February 2024. These activities have left many good feelings and impressions about the image of the Vietnam People's Navy for navies around the world.

This mission becomes even more meaningful when at LIMA 2023, Ship 20 becomes the first warship of Naval Region 3 to carry out a multilateral foreign affairs mission crossing the equator at 7:00 a.m. on May 31, 2023.

This trip opened a new page in history for Naval Region 3, affirming that Naval Region 3 has the capacity to be ready to receive and successfully complete international multilateral foreign affairs missions when assigned by the Naval Command.

To be able to complete the above tasks, after receiving Ship 20 on October 8, 2018, Squadron 132, Brigade 172 converted, upgraded, repaired and installed many other modern technical equipment so that the ship could meet the requirements of the assigned tasks.

Regarding design, Ship 20 belongs to the Pohang Flight III class, built in Korea. The ship is 88.3 meters long, 10 meters wide, has a displacement of 1,273 tons, and a maximum speed of 31.5 nautical miles/hour. The ship is capable of operating in level 8 wind and waves with a range of 4,000 nautical miles and continuously for 30 days and nights.

After being equipped, Ship 20 quickly stabilized its organization, staffing and carried out the unit's tasks. The Party Committee and ship commanders took many measures to improve combat readiness, organized training according to the curriculum, combined mastery training and specialized training in exploiting and using technical equipment.

To date, 100% of the ship's officers and soldiers have basically mastered and are capable of independently exploiting and using the technical equipment on board to meet the requirements of assigned tasks. In addition, the ship has also promoted the work of building a regular system, management, discipline training, ensuring safety; actively participating in digital transformation and applying information technology in performing duties and tasks.

The technical work is closely monitored and directed by the Party Committee and the Ship's commanders to maintain and ensure the ship's technical equipment operates well. The officers and soldiers of the entire Ship are always united, overcome difficulties, always uphold the spirit of responsibility, and are ready to receive and complete assigned tasks well.

With its outstanding achievements, Ship 20 was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of National Defense and the Navy Command for its outstanding achievements in defense foreign affairs missions, contributing to strengthening friendly relations and defense cooperation with other countries, protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. In addition, many individuals were honored and proud to receive Certificates of Merit, Certificates of Merit, and the titles of Emulation Fighter, Advanced Fighter from the Heads of the Service, Region and Brigade Commands.

Summing up the 2024 Quyet Thang emulation movement, Ship 20 is the unit with the most outstanding achievements and leads the Quyet Thang emulation movement of Squadron 132, Brigade 172, Naval Region 3; the ship collective was proposed to be awarded the title of Quyet Thang Unit, 03 individuals were proposed to be awarded the title of Basic Emulation Fighter, 03 individuals were proposed to be awarded the title of Advanced Fighter, 01 individual was proposed to be awarded the title of "Most Outstanding Branch Chief of the Navy".

The outstanding achievements of Ship 20, especially in carrying out foreign defense missions, have contributed significantly to the successful completion of the missions of Squadron 132, Brigade 172, Naval Region 3, and are worthy of being the pride of Brigade 172, Naval Region 3.
