On May 2, the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province said that in the early morning of the same day, in the waters of Con Dao, there was a collision between the fishing boat BV 97879 TS captained by Mr. Truong Quang Khanh (born in 1983, residing in Hoai Thanh, Hoai Nhon, Binh Dinh) and the cargo ship BBC MERCURY (Liberian nationality), causing the fishing boat to sink. All 10 fishermen were rescued by another fishing boat.

Specifically, at 2:00 a.m. on May 2, fishing boat BV 97879 TS and 10 fishermen were fishing in an area about 30 nautical miles northeast of Con Dao when they collided with the cargo ship BBC MERCURY, resulting in its sinking.

After the collision, 10 fishermen jumped into the sea holding onto the buoys and clinging to the floating part of the ship.

Immediately after receiving information from the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Region 3, the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province mobilized ship BP.13.01.01 with 7 officers and soldiers to quickly move from Con Dao to approach the scene to carry out rescue work, and at the same time notify vehicles operating near the area where fishing boat BV 97879 TS was in distress to join in supporting the rescue work in a timely manner.

At 5:10 a.m. the same day, all 10 fishermen in distress were discovered and promptly rescued safely by fishing boat BT 93277 TS and boat BV 97174 TS.

At 7:45 a.m., ship BP.13.01.01 approached, received 10 fishermen, provided initial medical care, reassured them, and quickly moved to bring 9 fishermen to Con Dao. The captain of the sunken fishing boat remained on ship BV 97174 TS to tow the sunken fishing boat to Con Dao for repair.

Con Dao Border Guard Station is coordinating with local health care to check the health, encourage morale and arrange food and accommodation for the 9 fishermen in distress.

According to initial information, fishing boat BV 97879 TS departed from Ben Da port (Vung Tau) on April 28 with 11 fishermen. However, while operating at sea, one fisherman on board had a stomachache and had to return to shore.
