VnExpressVnExpress06/10/2023

After a few light rains, about 9 hectares of farmland of people in Dak R'lap district appeared cracked and subsided 1 to 2 meters deep.

The subsidence area is mainly on the farmland of the people of village 4, Nhan Co commune. The ground cracked deeply and widely, causing many durian trees to fall and tilt. A 40 m2 iron house and a 100 m2 ground-level house were severely damaged.

Ms. Vi Thi Hau, in village 4, said that about 10 days ago, a small, short crack appeared. In the past 3 days, the subsidence has become more serious, with some sections sinking 1-2 m deep and 50 cm wide.

Mr. Le Dinh Khanh, Vice Chairman of Nhan Co Commune People's Committee, said that the locality has not yet calculated the damage caused by the subsidence. To ensure safety, the authorities have asked households living in the subsidence area to relocate to new places.

Previously, the rain in July caused subsidence on National Highway 14 (section through Gia Nghia City); Tuy Duc District and Dak Glong District. Geological experts explained that the phenomenon of land cracking and subsidence was due to prolonged heavy rains, making the soil heavy and reducing its durability.
