Bustling market for school supplies for back-to-school season

Students prioritize choosing learning products with clear origin and source.

Walking around some bookstores, supermarkets, and stationery stores in the province, although it is not a weekend, but from 9-10 am and from 4-8 pm in the evening, parents take their children to buy school supplies quite crowded. On the shelves, domestically produced products account for the majority and are preferred by consumers due to their clear origin, diverse designs, guaranteed quality, reasonable prices, etc.

To make it easier for parents and students to search and choose products, many stores and bookstores have arranged and rearranged their booths according to different categories and grades, from textbooks, supplementary knowledge books, reference books, advanced books, etc. to all kinds of school supplies.

At the Central Bookstore ( Long An Ward, Tay Ninh Province), staff continuously put more books, notebooks, etc. on the shelves for customers to choose and shop. Director of the Central Bookstore Lam Quoc Hieu said: "To serve the new school year, we imported a large amount of stationery from the end of May such as paper, notebooks, pens, school bags and many other items. In particular, most of the goods that the bookstore prioritizes are domestic products from reputable brands such as Hong Ha, Thuan Tien, Thien Long, etc. to meet the tastes and increasing needs of consumers."

Compared to previous years, the prices of books and school supplies this year have not fluctuated much. Specifically, the price of a set of primary school textbooks ranges from about 300,000-400,000 VND/set; middle school and high school textbooks range from about 180,000 VND to more than 200,000 VND/set (price includes exercise books, not including English books). Exercise books range from 7,000-15,000 VND/book; pencils and ballpoint pens range from 4,000-20,000 VND/pen; highlighters, erasers, and rulers range from 8,000-25,000 VND/pen. School bags cost from 150,000-400,000 VND, high-end models can cost up to several million VND, depending on the material and features.

While choosing school supplies, Vo Nguyen Thao Van (living in Tan An ward) shared: “This year, I am going to grade 12 so I need to prepare a lot of supplies for studying and reviewing for exams. I bought the books before, today I took advantage of my free time to buy some other necessary school supplies. This year's school supplies are very diverse, many Vietnamese products have promotional programs so I buy mostly domestic products.”

Ms. Phan Thi Ngoc (residing in Long An ward) said: “This year, my child is in grade 3. In addition to textbooks, I bought some other learning tools for my child to prepare for the new school year. I often choose to buy at reputable bookstores to avoid fake, counterfeit, and unknown origin products that affect the quality of my child's learning.”

According to Ms. Tran Quynh Phuong Thao - owner of Hieu Thao Bookstore (Thuan My commune), this year, many parents tend to shop early to avoid overloading close to the first day of school. The number of customers increases the most on weekends and in the late afternoon. In addition to choosing to buy a complete set of textbooks, many people look for individual books provided by the school, with additional reference books and exercise books to help their children study more effectively. In particular, textbooks and study materials for 9th and 12th graders are purchased the most, because these are the two final grades, requiring thorough preparation of knowledge and practice of skills right from the summer vacation to proactively enter the new school year.

In addition to shopping directly at bookstores, many parents and students choose to order online via social networks and e-commerce platforms due to the convenience and competitive prices. However, to ensure product quality, consumers need to consider carefully and prioritize choosing reputable suppliers with clear information about the origin and commitment to genuine products./.
