Lao Cai Department of Education and Training explains 'unusual exam' with 7.65 points increased after review

Regarding the case of a candidate whose high school graduation exam score increased from 1.1 points to 8.75 points after the review, on the afternoon of August 13, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training said that during the review process of the 2025 high school graduation exam, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training Examination Council discovered an unusual case.

When reviewing and checking, the council believes that the Biology exam paper of the candidate had the wrong exam code written on the exam receipt, and the wrong exam code written and filled in on the multiple-choice answer sheet compared to the exam code distributed.

Therefore, the Department of Education and Training reported and asked for instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training. After receiving the views and instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training to resolve the issue in a way that ensures the rights of candidates, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training made a record of the irregular exam marking with the confirmation, witness and supervision of relevant members of the review board such as the police, the inspection team and the provincial inspectorate... to re-mark the candidates' exams.

The final result after the review, the candidate's test score is 8.75 points, an increase of 7.65 points as previously announced.

In addition to this exam, a Literature exam also had its score adjusted from 6.75 to 7 points. Nearly 350 other exams were reviewed but their scores remained unchanged.

According to a report from the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, the high school graduation rate in the province this year reached 99.1%. In the 2025 high school graduation exam, the number of candidates taking the exam in Lao Cai was more than 18,300. The whole province had more than 260 scores of 10. The average score of the subjects of candidates in Lao Cai was 5.92 points, ranking 26th out of 34 provinces and cities.

A candidate from Lao Cai province just increased his score by 7.65 points after the high school graduation exam in Biology was re-examined, from 1.1 to 8.75 points.
