The book has Vietnamese, Vietnamese-English bilingual, Korean monolingual and most recently Vietnamese-Japanese bilingual versions. This is the latest edition of the first panorama picture book about Vietnamese history for children, condensing a large amount of knowledge, describing the entire history of Vietnam from the Hong Bang period to the present in just under 100 pages.

Vietnamese history for children

The content is conveyed in concise, evocative language, combined with especially vivid illustrations by artist Ta Huy Long, making it easy for children to read, easy to access, and to better understand and love Vietnamese history.

The book was written by Hieu Minh and Huyen Trang, edited by historian Duong Trung Quoc, and illustrated by artist Ta Huy Long. Launched in 2011, to date, A Brief History of Vietnam in Pictures has published more than 200,000 copies in four versions: Vietnamese, bilingual Vietnamese - English, monolingual Korean, and bilingual Vietnamese - Japanese.

The Vietnamese - Japanese bilingual version has just been released, translated by Shimizu Masaaki, edited by Dr. Kondo Mika and Prof. Dr. Okada Masashi.

The Vietnamese - Japanese bilingual edition of A Brief History of Vietnam in Pictures, released by Kim Dong Publishing House in the summer of 2025, is a valuable spiritual gift for Vietnamese children living in Japan, as well as the Japanese-speaking reading community at home and abroad.

The book also contributes to introducing Vietnamese history and culture to Japanese readers.

Make more books about folklore

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Lan Trung - President of the Vietnam Linguistics Association - said that the current generation of Vietnamese children born in Japan is quite large in number.

The need for a concise, comprehensive, easy-to-understand, and vivid history book to educate children about the history of our motherland as well as to support them in learning their mother tongue is very great.

Following the success of this book, Mr. Nguyen Lan Trung suggested that Kim Dong Publishing House should compile and publish books introducing traditional Vietnamese folk culture to children in the country, especially children of Vietnamese origin abroad.

Such as books that collect Vietnamese nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and Vietnamese children's folk games in a more modern form. Or a collection of fun puzzles in the Vietnamese folk treasure.

With these books, children can learn about the history and culture of their roots, learn Vietnamese, and play at the same time.
