In Hoa Binh ward, there are 327 people who participated in the resistance war and were exposed to toxic chemicals; 31 subjects are children of people exposed to toxic chemicals and are also suffering from severe consequences. Joining hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange is not only a responsibility but also a gratitude and sharing for the sacrifices of our ancestors' generation for the independence and freedom of the country.

Together with the working group of Hoa Binh ward, we visited the families of Agent Orange victims in the ward. Each situation has its own pain but all are haunting and heartbreaking. In a small house in group 5, Hoa Binh ward, Mr. Bui Doan Dan is 76 years old this year but still has to take care of his son, Mr. Bui Doan Thang, who is infected with second-generation Agent Orange. Due to the effects of Agent Orange, Mr. Thang has abnormal mental symptoms and often has to be isolated in a separate room. Mr. Dan himself is a victim of Agent Orange. After being discharged from the army and returning to his hometown to work at the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant construction site, he had another work accident, so his health has declined significantly. His wife is also old, in poor health, and has no salary. All the burdens are on Mr. Dan's shoulders!

Hoa Binh Ward visited and gave gifts to Mr. Bui Doan Dan, an Agent Orange victim residing in Group 5, Hoa Binh Ward.

Unable to hide his emotions, Mr. Bui Doan Dan shared: For many years, my family lived in an old, dilapidated house. Recently, with the attention, support and help of the local Party Committee and government, my family was able to build this solid level four house. Thanks to the attention of the associations at all levels and organizations and individuals, my family no longer has to worry about rain, wind and leaks.

Along with Mr. Dan’s family, many families of Agent Orange victims in particular and meritorious people in general in Hoa Binh ward have received investment in repairing and building new houses. Currently, in Hoa Binh ward, there are no families of Agent Orange victims or meritorious people living in temporary or dilapidated houses.

Through screening in Hoa Binh ward, most of the subjects directly exposed are old, mostly over 70 years old, in difficult circumstances, struggling due to illness and unable to work like normal people. Families with the second and third generations infected with Agent Orange have even more difficulties. Understanding that, in the past time, the Party Committees and authorities of the communes and wards before the merger and Hoa Binh ward today, along with many organizations and individuals, have devoted themselves to taking care of the victims with all their sympathy, sharing and many practical actions.

Specifically, supporting house construction; building a fund to help Agent Orange victims; regularly visiting and giving gifts; promptly paying full policies for Agent Orange victims in the ward. On the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day July 27 and Day for Agent Orange victims August 10 this year, Hoa Binh ward visited and gave gifts to 1,105 meritorious people and Agent Orange victims in the ward with a total value of 221 million VND.
