Promoting the role of mathematics and applications in the data age

The workshop was attended by many experts, scientists, researchers, lecturers and students from research institutes and universities nationwide.

On the side of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, there were the presence of the University Council, the Board of Directors, the Editorial Board of East West Journal of Mathematics and Southeast Asian Journal of Sciences , departments, faculties/institutes, and centers throughout the university. Especially, there was the presence of a large number of students, trainees, and postgraduates of Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Mai Lan - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the School Council said that in the face of the wave of digital transformation and global technology development, artificial intelligence, big data and automation increasingly dominating fields from science to life, mathematics is making a strong comeback as a foundation of thinking and a strategic tool to promote innovation and sustainable development. According to Dr. Nguyen Mai Lan, mathematics is not only the language of science but also the key to solving practical problems, from finance - technology to biomedicine and education. Therefore, the workshop is a valuable forum for scientists, lecturers and students to meet, exchange, and form interdisciplinary cooperation, thereby promoting the improvement of the quality of research, teaching and application of mathematics in Vietnam.

The 2025 International Scientific Conference "Mathematics and Applications" gathered more than 300 delegates from 10 countries and territories, including: the United States, Korea, India, Poland, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, China, Japan and Vietnam. The conference selected more than 50 scientific reports, ranging from algebra, algebraic geometry, topology, partial differential equations, quantum mechanics to practical applications in finance, education, biomedicine, environment, machine learning and artificial intelligence - fields that are playing a key role in the process of national digital transformation.

According to Professor Dao Hai Long - University of Kansas (USA), building a comprehensive ecosystem to develop and apply mathematics effectively, serving human interests is extremely important. However, it requires synchronization from education to scientific research, in order to clearly understand both the benefits and risks of applying artificial intelligence (AI). In Vietnam, investment and support policies for mathematics development are still not commensurate, but Vietnam has been making certain contributions to the field of world mathematics. Professor Dao Hai Long also believes that, in order to promote the role of mathematics, Vietnam needs to focus on areas in which it has inherent advantages, combined with global trends.

Agreeing with the above viewpoint, Prof. Dr. Efim I. Zelmanov - Southern University of Science and Technology (Shenzhen, China) said that mathematics is directly and deeply affecting human life. According to Prof. Dr. Efim I. Zelmanov, the most useful mathematical algorithm ever is machine learning algorithm, also known as artificial intelligence. He also said that the development of mathematics in Vietnam is developing at a dizzying speed, especially when Vietnam is entering a new data era.

The International Scientific Conference "Mathematics and Applications" in 2025 will continue to take place until August 11, 2025 with many activities in Tay Ninh province such as: visiting Cao Dai religion, discussion sessions on pure mathematics and applied mathematics, visiting locations in Tay Ninh province, ... This year, ICMA - NTTU 2025 not only contributes to enhancing Vietnam's academic position on the international mathematical research map but also creates a strong push to contribute to building a sustainable applied mathematics ecosystem and training high-quality human resources - the core resource that is very necessary in the process of national modernization.
