People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi believes that today's stage is not only a place for entertainment but also a place to arouse love for the homeland and gratitude towards the generation of fathers and brothers who sacrificed for national independence.

Reporter: The two performances of the play "That Day, Heaven's Gate" (author Nguyen Khang Chien) that you directed attracted the attention of a large audience. What do you say about this play?

- People's Artist TRINH KIM CHI: The play "That Day, Heaven's Gate" - is like a stick of incense offered on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. When starting to stage this play, my crew and I worked with all our affection, responsibility and pride. We not only recounted a historical period but also wanted to recreate the spirit, beliefs and ideals of a golden generation - people who dared to love, to sacrifice, to keep their faith in the day when the country was peaceful and free.

In the program "A Lifetime, a Forest" celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV), you represented Ho Chi Minh City artists to interact and express deep gratitude to the team of journalists working in television. What does this event mean to you?

- I am proud to be an actor who has been with HTV since the first years of my career. Over the past half century, HTV has not only been a place to mark the progress of media and television, but also a warm home, a place that has given wings to many generations of artists like me to express their talents, share their passion and live fully with their profession.

For me personally, the times I participated in performing on the HTV stage are always beautiful memories. HTV has created conditions for artists to shine, always respecting and cherishing the values of national culture and art.

Can you share your perspective on cultural and artistic activities in Ho Chi Minh City after 50 years of national reunification?

- Over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Culture and Arts has always closely followed the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, clearly demonstrating its role in accompanying and encouraging political tasks in each stage of the country's development. From composition to performance, from theory to training, all aspects have recorded many strong steps forward, well meeting the people's increasing demand for spiritual and cultural enjoyment. Ho Chi Minh City regularly organizes competitions and creative camps, contributing to nurturing and discovering new talents.

What contributions has the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association made to promoting the arts and culture of Ho Chi Minh City?

- Ho Chi Minh City's drama stage once experienced a golden age with plays that touched people's hearts, such as: "La du rieng", "Nguoi ven do", "Rong Phuong", "Chien binh", "Duong bay", "Da co hoai lang"... Many big names such as: People's Artist Kim Cuong, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, People's Artist Dam Loan, People's Artist Hong Van... still shine. Cai luong art has works: "Tieng Trong Me Linh", "Doi co Luu", "To Anh Nguyet"... with veteran artists who are precious gems of the country's theatrical art.

Ho Chi Minh City has just successfully organized the first Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival. This achievement will promote creativity for socialized and public units, aiming to stage and perform works that are well received by the public. The Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association also organized the forum "Dialogue Space for Artists and the Public", through which to listen to feedback from the audience and creative subjects also have the opportunity to exchange and perfect their works.

In order to improve the quality of training and development of human resources for culture and arts in Ho Chi Minh City, what do you think needs to be done?

- Ho Chi Minh City always focuses on training and developing a team of artists. Ho Chi Minh City is implementing the "Strategy for developing the cultural industry until 2035", promoting the application of technology, applying AI to digital content creation, investing in cultural institutions. Ho Chi Minh City is a pioneer in the country in developing creative spaces, building a dynamic cultural market, promoting exchanges and affirming its position in the international arena.

In addition to continuing to do well the above mentioned tasks, it is necessary to increase investment in the young force to apply technological knowledge to the field of culture and arts. Create mechanisms and policies to encourage creativity and strongly socialize culture and arts activities.

What are the limitations and difficulties in cultural and artistic activities in Ho Chi Minh City?

- Although many encouraging results have been achieved, the city's cultural and artistic life still has many shortcomings. There are still many aspects that do not meet the requirements of new development, and have not really contributed effectively to building people and a positive cultural environment. Some areas still develop unsynchronized, confused in approaching new issues. There are still not many works of literature and art that are truly valuable in both ideology and art. Some products still follow market tastes and lack depth.

Theoretical and critical activities have not developed commensurately, and have not fulfilled their role in guiding aesthetics and contributing to improving the quality of creation. This has had a significant impact on the formation of healthy tastes among the public. Currently, we still lack influential artists who are both talented and have good moral qualities. The work of discovering, training and nurturing talents - especially young talents and those in the traditional arts - still has many shortcomings. The treatment policy and working environment for artists have not really attracted and nurtured long-term dedication.

In addition, copyright infringement in music, cinema, and fine arts is still widespread and has not been thoroughly handled. Literary and artistic associations face many difficulties in terms of operating mechanisms, finance, and attracting young people. Many cultural institutions are degraded and outdated; new projects have not been implemented in a timely manner. Meanwhile, the demand for cultural enjoyment of the people - especially the youth - is increasing and diversifying. It is necessary to seriously acknowledge these shortcomings, thereby promptly finding solutions to overcome them in a modern and professional direction.

.The dissemination of works on cyberspace is currently taking place strongly. How do you evaluate this trend?

- It is undeniable that social networks are an effective promotional channel but also have potential risks. Many cultural products of poor quality and ideological deviations appear everywhere, negatively affecting tastes, especially among young people. Censorship and orientation in the digital environment are still confused, lacking strong enough sanctions.

Ho Chi Minh City is facing a great opportunity to transform itself. First of all, it is necessary to innovate cultural management thinking, closely follow the trend of globalization and digital transformation. It is necessary to soon concretize policies suitable to local realities, focusing on developing human resources with capacity, ethics and creativity.

"People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi expressed: "Ho Chi Minh City is a place that gathers all cultural colors, is the largest center of artistic creation in the country - that is also the pride and motivation for artists to create, devote themselves, and contribute to art, to the audience, to the country".
