Handing over the Great Solidarity house to Mr. Phung Van Minh Thang's family
Housing support to help disadvantaged households have a place to "settle down and make a living" is one of the humane actions, receiving widespread support and participation from the entire political system and kind-hearted people in society. Every year, the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Phu district coordinate to develop a plan to mobilize housing support, calling on people with "mutual love" to contribute to building Great Unity houses. Thanks to the participation of organizations, businesses and people, many households have had stable and peaceful housing, gradually rising out of poverty.
According to Decision 04-QD/BCĐ, dated March 12, 2025 of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in An Giang province on approving the need to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province, Chau Phu district has approved 167 households to receive housing support, including 123 households needing to build new houses and 44 households needing to repair. Of these, there are 49 households with meritorious services to the revolution and 118 poor and near-poor households. The total funding requirement for implementation is 5.7 billion VND. To date, the district has built 126/167 houses, including 109 new houses and 17 repaired houses.
Of the 126 newly built and repaired houses, 54 were newly built and repaired in 2024, including 4 houses belonging to households with revolutionary contributions; 50 houses belonging to poor and near-poor households, funded by the district's social mobilization and the households' counterpart funds. In 2025 alone, the entire district has completed the construction and repair of 72/113 houses, including: 11/45 houses of people with revolutionary contributions have been completed; the remaining households are being dismantled and constructed, expected to be completed before April 15, 2025. For support houses for poor and near-poor households, 61/68 houses have been completed, the remaining 7 houses were built by families who refused to receive support, and the households themselves built new houses and repaired them.
For poor and near-poor households, being supported with a sturdy house to protect them from the rain and sun is a great joy. Recently, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Phu district organized the acceptance and put into use a Great Unity house from the source sponsored by An Giang Newspaper in 2025 for Mr. Phung Van Minh Thang's household (Binh Thien hamlet, Binh Thuy commune). The house has a brick floor, corrugated iron walls, zinc frame, corrugated iron roof, and an area of 61.5 square meters. The total cost of building a new house is 95 million VND, of which An Giang Newspaper supported 60 million VND, the rest was mobilized by the locality in cash, in kind and labor days. Due to difficult circumstances, the family has many members, all of whom rely on Mr. Thang's hired work, now having a sturdy house makes all family members happy. Mr. Phung Van Minh Thang expressed: "This is a great joy for the whole family. I don't know what to say other than thank the locality and the financial support unit, and the benefactors who helped me get the house."
In the process of implementing the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area, the District People's Committee has requested units and localities to implement flexibly and creatively, with a high spirit and responsibility, promoting local self-reliance and contributions and responses from households receiving housing support. At the same time, promoting the strength of national solidarity, arousing the spirit of "mutual love", "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" to mobilize organizations, individuals and businesses inside and outside the district to support. Regularly inspect, supervise and urge the implementation of temporary and dilapidated house elimination, ensuring housing support policies for beneficiaries in accordance with regulations, avoiding exploitation, profiteering, negativity and waste.
The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the district requested the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the communes and towns to report to the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, coordinate with the People's Committee and the departments, branches and unions of the communes and hamlets to review and survey the poor, near-poor households, and those with difficult housing conditions in the area, organize discussions to select in order of priority, make a list, coordinate with the People's Committee of the commune to hold a meeting to consider and prepare a dossier to request the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the district to consider and unify funding support for building Great Unity houses, in order to help people have solid houses and stabilize their lives. In addition, the locality also integrates livelihood support programs and guides on household economic development to help people rise up and escape poverty.
From the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the shelters built are not only a place to live, helping people overcome difficulties, but also a place to nurture faith and hope for a better life for each family in difficult circumstances. Thereby, demonstrating the spirit of "mutual love", the responsibility of the entire political system, businesses, and philanthropists towards the social community.
