Many Vietnamese novels find new readers

After the English translations of Truyen Kieu (Nguyen Du), Bien su nuoc (Nguyen Ngoc Tu), Lam dia (Vu Trong Phung)... Major Books, a brand specializing in introducing Vietnamese works based in the UK, has just introduced the English translation Parallels from the novel Song song by Vu Dinh Giang. The work was first published in 2007, reprinted in 2011, and translated into French in 2014. This time, the Song song translation is undertaken by Khai Q. Nguyen - a master of comparative literature at the universities of Perpignan (France), St Andrews (UK) and Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

Writer Vu Dinh Giang won the fourth prize in the 20-Year-Old Literature Competition (2000) with his collection of short stories , "Placement ." Parallel tells the story of young people stuck with past wounds and their own loneliness. Major Books praised Vu Dinh Giang for his "rich imagination and unique style" and called it a "subtle work", calling it a "hidden gem of contemporary Vietnamese literature". Anton Hur, a famous Korean translator whose works have been nominated for the International Booker Prize, commented: " Parallel is a novel with the colors of Wong Kar-wai's films."

Opening the Southeast Asian Literature Translation project signed by many ASEAN countries with Ly Giang Publishing House (Guangxi Province, China) at the 31st Beijing International Book Fair last June, the Chibooks brand announced that it had just chosen to introduce the novel The World in Disarray by writer Trinh Bich Ngan. According to the plan, the translation is expected to be completed in June 2026 by Chinese experts and will be promoted in the billion-people market immediately after that. The work revolves around the inner world of a war invalid when returning to normal life. Ms. Nguyen Le Chi, Director of Chibooks, said that this is the first step in the project to introduce Vietnamese literature to this market and "is very honored and proud to have contributed a small part to bringing Vietnamese literature to the big sea after many years of trying to find a way".

Having been released a long time ago, The Gioi Publishing House and the Bookworm Hanoi brand have just republished two books , Behind the Red Mist and The Women on the Island, by writer Ho Anh Thai. These are two works first published in the US in 1998 and 2000, and have also appeared in many other languages over the years. This time, the book will have a press section including book reviews and opinions about the two works. With this return, the two publications target the needs of English readers as well as foreigners currently studying and working in Vietnam and are rare translations that have been re-released to readers.
