Losing in the semi-finals, the Vietnamese and Thai women's teams met again in the bronze medal match at the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship. Although they did not complete their goal of reaching the final, the two teams still have an important match ahead, not only for the title, but also to affirm their strength against opponents considered rivals.
Before the rematch with Thailand, the Vietnamese women's team lost their first match of the tournament when facing U23 Australia (1-2). That was a match in which coach Mai Duc Chung 's team, despite their best efforts, were almost powerless because they were much weaker than their opponents in terms of physique and physical strength. The home team even conceded 2 goals early and only narrowed the score to 1-2 in the final minutes of the match.

Coach Mai Duc Chung admitted that the Vietnamese women's team deserved to lose, and immediately after the match the players must return with the highest concentration, preparing best for the match against Thailand.
"In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese women's team played at 150% of their strength but their opponents were too strong. Although we played better in the second half, football is like that, having high determination depends on many aspects.
We still have the third place match, and hope the players will fight with all their might and the highest spirit to win against Thailand," said coach Mai Duc Chung.
Evaluating the opponent Thailand - the team that the Vietnamese women's team defeated 1-0 in the group stage, coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized: "Confidence is a part, but we must learn from previous matches. I pointed out the pros and cons to the players, and hope that in this match the team will limit mistakes to continue to win."
The Vietnamese and Thai women's teams know each other very well. Over the past 10 years, the Vietnamese girls have never lost a match against the Thais, and this time, coach Mai Duc Chung's team is confident of another victory when they rematch their biggest rival in the region, winning a bronze medal and, more importantly, honor.
The Vietnam vs Thailand women's team match will take place at 4:30 p.m. on August 19 at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong . The final match between U23 Australia vs Myanmar will take place at 8 p.m.
