The play depicts the life and career of patriot Tang Bat Ho (1858 - 1906), real name Tang Doan Van - a typical historical figure in the anti-French movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Born in An Thuong village, Van Duc commune, Bong Son district, Hoai Nhon prefecture, Binh Dinh province (now Van Duc commune, Gia Lai province), Tang Bat Ho was a brave and heroic man, famous for his literary and martial skills. He was the leader of the Can Vuong movement in Bac Binh Dinh, the guide for Phan Boi Chau to go to Japan, and together with Phan Boi Chau initiated the Dong Du movement.
Patriot Tang Bat Ho left a deep mark in the history of the struggle for national liberation, a shining example of patriotism, steadfast spirit and aspiration for national independence and freedom.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Quynh, Director of Gia Lai Province Traditional Arts Theater, said that according to the plan, the play will be staged for 90 shows, after which a general rehearsal will be reported.
The play's crew will exploit traditional opera techniques combined with elaborate staging, music and costumes, to recreate the personality of patriotic scholar Tang Bat Ho, conveying a message about patriotism and the strength of national unity.

The staging of the new historical play "Aspiration for the Country" by the Gia Lai Traditional Arts Theater contributes to enriching the opera repertoire to serve the people, introducing the image of historical figures in the homeland of "the land of martial arts, the sky of literature" to the general public.
It is expected that in October, the Theater will also stage a new Bai Choi opera to add to its repertoire.
