Reasons for the series of flights to the Central region being "delayed" today

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động13/03/2025

(NLDO)- Early this morning, March 13, many airports in the Northern and Central regions experienced dense fog and low cloud ceilings.

Therefore, many flights to Tho Xuan, Vinh, and Dong Hoi airports did not follow the schedule and had to adjust their take-off times.

Specifically, Tho Xuan airport experienced fog, low cloud ceiling lasting from 5-7:30 am, the lowest recorded horizontal visibility decreased to 400 m, low cloud ceiling 60 m. Vinh airport experienced fog, low cloud ceiling from 6-7:30 am, lowest horizontal visibility was 400 m, vertical visibility was 60 m. Dong Hoi airport experienced low cloud ceiling from 5-9 am, fog appeared from 5:30 am to 8 am, lowest horizontal visibility was 350 m, vertical visibility was 60 m. Noi Bai airport experienced drizzle, fog from 9-10:33 am, lowest recorded horizontal visibility decreased to 650 m, low cloud ceiling 90 m.

Although many airports had low visibility and cloud ceilings that fell below operating standards, no flights had to wait or divert to alternate airports. However, some early flights to Tho Xuan, Vinh and Dong Hoi airports had to adjust their departure times from their departure airports. Therefore, flights to the above 3 airports were delayed by about 1-2 hours compared to the original flight plan.

"The phenomenon of low clouds and fog lasting for many hours will greatly affect the operations of airlines. Flights will have difficulty taking off and landing as planned, having to divert to alternate airports or even cancel flights at the departure airport... If fog and low clouds occur at the same time at many airports, it will greatly affect flight operations," said a representative of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM).

Forecasts from the Noi Bai Aviation Meteorological Center show that after March 15, a strong cold air mass will affect northern airports, causing the weather to turn cold and dry.

VATM also emphasized that accurate forecasting and advice on the formation and end of fog and low cloud ceilings is very important for airlines and operators, thereby being able to proactively adjust flight plans, helping to minimize losses for airlines. In addition, VATM's flight operations facilities can also be more proactive in flight operations.
