On the morning of August 19, a 115 satellite emergency station in Ho Chi Minh City received a man (42 years old) who was found unconscious in the bathroom after not coming out for more than an hour.
The victim’s family said that at around 5:30 a.m., he went to the bathroom. After more than an hour, the father sensed something was wrong, so he broke down the door and discovered his son lying motionless on the floor, purple. The man was quickly taken to the emergency room at his workplace.
Sharing with Dan Tri , Dr. Nguyen Thang Nhat Tue, Head of the Emergency Department, the patient had a history of gout and dyslipidemia. He was admitted to the hospital in a deep coma, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, cyanosis, dilated pupils of 4-5 mm, and no light reflex.
Although doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than an hour using chest compressions, intubation, balloon compression, electric shock, and medication, the patient still showed no signs of life.
From this heartbreaking case, Dr. Tue recommends that the community limit going to the toilet for too long, straining. This can easily change blood pressure, increase the burden on the heart, stimulate arrhythmia, and myocardial infarction.
When you see a loved one staying in the bathroom for an unusually long time, you should quickly check. Don't be afraid to knock on the door or be afraid of disturbing them.
If the victim is found unconscious and not breathing, call an ambulance immediately, check the pulse and breathing, and perform chest compressions on the spot. Every minute of delay can cost the victim their chance of survival.
In addition, people should absolutely not ignore transient signs such as dizziness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, chest tightness, palpitations, unusual sweating, unusual gout pain...
In addition, people with underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease, gout, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc. need to follow treatment instructions from their doctors and control risk factors such as quitting smoking, limiting alcohol, and maintaining physical activity. Regular check-ups and screenings are very important to detect risks early.
