Elderly people – Positive factors in digital transformation

Digital transformation has penetrated every corner of social life, from electronic payments to remote medical examination and treatment. In this context, the elderly – despite facing many technological barriers – have shown that they can completely become active digital citizens if they are approached properly and have the support of the community.

In fact, more and more elderly people have accessed and applied digital technology in their work, daily life and communication, contributing to narrowing the digital gap between generations and improving the quality of life.

In many localities across the country, the image of elderly men and women in their 60s and 70s carrying smartphones and tablets to classes on popularizing artificial intelligence (AI) or scanning health insurance codes via the VssID application is no longer rare. This proves that, with appropriate guidance and support, the elderly can fully adapt and enjoy the benefits that digital transformation brings.

From shy to proactive

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tinh, Vice President of the Elderly Association of Hung Dao Commune, Nghe An Province, he was confused when his children and grandchildren gave him a smartphone, but thanks to his perseverance in learning and being guided enthusiastically, he gradually became familiar with technology applications. "I clearly see that digital transformation is not something far away, but is present in my daily life," said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tinh.

Currently, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tinh has directly used the health insurance card from the VssID software on his phone. When going to the hospital for a medical examination, instead of having to present the health insurance card, citizen identification card and declare information as before, after just a few minutes of scanning the code, checking on the system, the information and registration are displayed quickly, the quick registration procedure makes her and many people very satisfied.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tinh also actively participated in propaganda sessions, guiding people on digital transformation in the commune, encouraging his children and grandchildren to register for chip-embedded citizen identification cards, activate electronic identification, use online public services, etc., contributing to spreading the spirit of digital citizenship in the community.

Practical and close benefits

Digital transformation not only helps the elderly save time and effort but also brings valuable spiritual values. Through social networking platforms such as Zalo and Facebook, the elderly can easily connect with relatives and friends; share information, images, and daily emotions.

According to Mr. Pham Cong Khanh - Chairman of the Elderly Association of Hung Dao Commune, many members have now mastered the use of technological devices to forward documents and promote the Association's activities to grassroots branches. Exchanging information via Zalo groups has significantly saved time and effort in traveling, while contributing to creating a more modern and flexible Association environment.

In particular, technology also helps the elderly update medical information, new policies, health advice, age-appropriate nutrition... thereby taking better care of themselves and their families.

AI Classroom – Where Age is No Longer a Barrier

A vivid demonstration of the change in the awareness and actions of the elderly is the 6th Artificial Intelligence (AI) popularization class organized by the Tuyen Quang Province Business Association. The class attracted over 50 students from many different fields, including many people aged 60-70 who brought computers, phones and even raincoats (in case of bad weather) to class with the spirit of learning and learning.

Even though it was their first time approaching AI technology, they still listened attentively, practiced each step of installing and using the application. It can be seen that digital transformation and artificial intelligence are no longer the "playground" of young people, but are gradually becoming useful and friendly tools for all ages - as long as there is proper guidance.

Directly accompanying organizations and businesses with the "hands-on" teaching method has aroused excitement and belief in each student that: It is never too late to learn technology.
