The whole province strives to cultivate 77,500 hectares of rice.

In addition to the predicted difficulties in terms of complex pests and diseases, droughts and natural disasters, floods and storms, this year's Summer-Autumn crop production takes place in the context of implementing the policy on restructuring the organizational apparatus (eliminating district level, merging communes), posing difficulties and challenges in management, direction and implementation.

Faced with that situation, the agricultural sector has developed a plan, arranged a reasonable structure of varieties, crops, and seasons, suitable to the actual conditions, specific to each region as well as suitable to the planning and land use plan of each locality. The policy is flexible, drastic and mobilizes the entire political system to focus on directing production; exploiting and promoting all resources to the maximum to complete the targets on area, productivity, output, ensuring safe and highly effective production.

The food production target for 2025 is 1,033,475 tons. Based on the production results of the 2024 Winter crop and the estimated 2025 Spring crop, Nghe An strives to achieve 400,360 tons of food in this year's Summer-Autumn crop.

Accordingly, the whole province strives to cultivate 77,500 hectares of rice (56,000 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice and 21,500 hectares of Winter-Spring rice), of which 30,000 hectares of quality rice and about 9,000 hectares of hybrid rice; in addition, producing 11,000 hectares of corn, 6,000 hectares of peanuts, 11,600 hectares of vegetables and 4,500 hectares of sesame and beans of all kinds.

Nearly 3,000 hectares of rice are at risk of drought and water shortage.

With the current water resources situation in the area, this summer-autumn crop, the risk of drought, water shortage, and saltwater intrusion may occur in the highlands, the end of the canal, and the end of the system. According to the forecast of the districts, the area at risk of drought and water shortage in the production plan is 2,912 hectares.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Nguyen Van De emphasized: With the forecast of drought, storms, and tropical depressions that may directly affect Nghe An province in September and October, the Summer-Autumn rice crop must be planted with the motto "as soon as possible" and put safety and efficiency first.

Accordingly, localities consider the time to harvest spring rice, the ability to distribute water to choose the time to sow seedlings, direct sowing and the seed structure to close the area and avoid floods, storms, and tropical depressions at the end of the season.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to direct hydropower companies in the province to regulate water discharge at appropriate flow rates to ensure sufficient irrigation water for production and people's lives in downstream areas when there is a water shortage.

Nghe An Electricity will base on the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop production schedule to prioritize power supply for agricultural production, especially in localities and regions that cannot take the initiative in water supply, when electricity is needed to pump water for rice cultivation and irrigation.
