Education sector proactively responds to and minimizes damage caused by tropical depression

GD&TĐ - The Minister of Education and Training sent an official dispatch to the Director of the Department of Education and Training in the Northern region, from Da Nang and above, regarding proactive response to tropical depression.

The telegram clearly stated: According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1:00 a.m. on August 18, 2025, the center of the tropical depression was at about 18.1 degrees North latitude - 109.1 degrees East longitude, in the sea south of Hainan Island (China). The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression reached level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving northwest at a speed of about 15 km/h.

It is forecasted that on August 19, 2025, the tropical depression will be at about 20.3 degrees North latitude - 107.7 degrees East longitude, in the Northern Gulf of Tonkin. The strongest wind will remain at level 6, gusting to level 8. The disaster risk level is warned at level 3. The depression will cause widespread heavy rain, posing a risk of serious flooding and landslides in many localities.

To proactively respond to floods in the context of the North having just experienced a prolonged period of heavy rain causing severe damage to people and property in the provinces of Dien Bien, Son La, Nghe An, in order to minimize damage to people and property in the education sector, the Ministry of Education and Training requests the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of the provinces and centrally-run cities in the North from Da Nang and above to urgently implement the following contents:

Firstly, closely monitor disaster forecasts and warnings from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting; proactively coordinate with authorities at all levels to deploy response measures in case of incidents.

Second, establish a communication channel with parents to manage students, minimizing the risk of natural disasters happening to students.

Third, make a plan to move files, documents, machinery, equipment, tables and chairs to a safe place to avoid damage. Review and inspect all school facilities and classrooms in the area, especially degraded structures that are at risk of being unsafe in the event of heavy rain, floods, landslides, waterlogging, etc. Prepare well the facilities and equipment for the opening of the 2025-2026 school year.

Fourth, continuously update information, summarize damage and develop a plan to report to the Provincial People's Committee for remediation, and at the same time report to the Ministry of Education and Training to summarize and report to the Government .
